I ain't clicked a spoiler in however long we've had them. Which is crazy since discipline on the Internet really doesnt apply anywhere else in my e life. And I appreciate that all you savages can come together on a website that thrives on bringing misery into other people's lives and remain somewhat respectful to the rest of us. Sion too, like he gets 0 respect anywhere else on the IC but here his word is bond and folks bend the knee without hesitation

Dope theory

Other theories have more of a conspiracy feel to them — loosely connecting threads and unabashedly stretching the imagination. For example, the suggestion that Daario, the handsome sellsword Daenerys is currently having an affair with, is actually Benjen Stark — Ned Stark’s brother who went missing from the Night’s Watch.

But there is one theory that rises above all others in the realm of insanity (bordering on genius). We’re talking about the “Cleganebowl."

It goes a little something like this:

Sandor “The Hound” Clegane is going to return to King’s Landing in order to fight his brother, Gregor “The Mountain” Clegane, to the death in a trial by combat for Cersei Lannister.

This may sound a bit bizarre to those who have been following the show.

Wasn't the Hound left for dead in season 4? And isn’t The Mountain lying under a sheet in some creepy guy’s laboratory? Even if they're both alive, why should I care if they fight?

All this, and more, to come.

First let’s look at why this theory is relevant right now based on events taking place in season five.

A champion for the crown

In episode seven, we saw the High Sparrow (the leader of the Faith) arrest Cersei and throw her into a cell to await trial. We learned afterward she was imprisoned for her role in King Robert’s death as well as her incestual sexual habits with her brother Jaime

Now, on the show so far, we have never seen a trial concluded in a purely judicial manner. Tyrion has twice stood accused of crimes, and both times he demanded a trial by combat. A trial by combat allows the defendant to select a “champion” to represent him in a fight to the death against the selected champion of the prosecution. The guilt of the defendant is determined by whether their champion wins or loses.

*Minor spoilers ahead now for show-only fans*

From the books, we know that Cersei will demand a trial by combat. And her champion? Well this is where it gets a bit complicated.

The Undead Mountain

Back in season four, we watched in horror as Oberyn Martell battled against Gregor Clegane (commonly known as The Mountain). Oberyn managed to stab The Mountain with a poisoned spear, but it wasn’t enough to win the fight. The Mountain crushed Oberyn’s head in with his bare hands, and won the trial by combat.

Since then, we have only had glimpses of The Mountain in what appeared to be various stages of experiments.

Here Qyburn examines the poisoned wound, and reassured Cersei that he had a plan to keep The Mountain alive.

Cont.

When he was explaining to Cersei the gist of his plan, he warned her: "You should know. The process may change him, somewhat.”

Next, in season five episode three, we got a glimpse into Qyburn’s laboratory when Cersei asked him to send a letter. While there, Cersei asked “How’s your work coming along?” (referring to the Mountain's "healing").

Qyburn replied “Better than expected, but still a ways to go.”

Then we see a large shrouded figure in the background, and suddenly it writhes under the sheet.

So we know that The Mountain is still alive in some capacity.

In the written series, Cersei writes to Qyburn from her prison cell and tells him to appoint a new member of the Kingsguard — one that can serve as her champion. Qyburn presents a large knight named Ser Robert Strong.

It is extremely likely that Robert Strong is none other than the zombified version of The Mountain that Qyburn has been experimenting on. So, Cersei has her champion.

The Faith’s Champion

In order to understand why fans think Sandor “The Hound” Clegane will be named the Faith’s champion, we must explore a tangential theory known as “The Gravedigger.” YouTube user Alt Shift X made a popular visual explanation of the theory — you can watch the full video here.

The basics of this theory center around The Hound, and how in both the books and the show he is never actually seen dead. The last time we saw him on the show was in the season four finale, when Arya left him grievously wounded. This same scenario happens in the books, though the fight that leaves him injured is different.

In the books, Brienne of Tarth is wandering the country, looking for The Hound and (she hopes) Sansa or Arya. She goes to a place called the Quiet Isle, a sort of monastery for brothers of the Faith, and speaks to the Elder Brother.

This Elder Brother knows much about The Hound, and admits that he came across him while wounded and did his best to help him. Brienne then notices a very large man at the monastery who is digging graves. His head and face are nearly completely covered, but Brienne can tell he is limping from what could be a healing leg wound (the exact type that The Hound sustained). The Hound’s horse is at the Quiet Isle stables — another hint that The Hound is likely nearby. His horse is notorious for being uncontrollable by any other than The Hound himself.

Lastly, the Elder Brother is very vague when discussing The Hound’s supposed death. As Alt Shift X puts it, “The most he'll say about Sandor Clegane is that he's 'at rest.' So what the Elder Brother could be getting at is that the hateful, violent part of Sandor Clegane, called the Hound, is metaphorically dead, leaving Sandor Clegane ‘at rest,’ and most importantly for us, literally alive.”

So the Gravedigger theory infers that not only is the Hound alive, but he has now been brought into the Faith and serves them as Sandor Clegane.

Cleganebowl and the hype that won’t die

These two separate incidences — zombie Mountain and grave digging Hound — have combined to give birth to the Cleganebowl theory.

It started in 2013, when a 4chan thread about “Game of Thrones” prompted a user to submit their theory.

Early GOT Sansa didn't deserve a direwolf. Bitch was annoying as shit. Only feel bad about the red viper's death and karl's death. Nigga was a fookin legend in gin alley.

6 revenge things that can happen

Sansa vs. Ramsay and/or Littlefinger: Listen, Sansa didn’t squirrel that object (corkscrew? leather working tool?) up her sleeve for nothing. I’d very much like to see her plunge it into someone’s soft spot before this season ends. Eye? Gut? Groin? I’m not picky. Ramsay should obviously be Sansa’s primary target, and if Theon wants to, he can help her there. But let’s not forget Littlefinger in all this. The bastard married Sansa off to a sadist/rapist and abandoned her without a real friend in the world. (R.I.P. old lady with braids.) If he makes it back to Winterfell before the finale (and we all know he can move around Westeros very quickly), then Sansa better not welcome him back with loving arms. Unless, of course, she then uses one of those arms to stab him with a corkscrew.

Brienne vs. Stannis: I know we’ve all been waiting for Brienne to do, well, anything for several episodes now. The lady knight has been on ice since she took down Littlefinger’s men in Episode 2. So maybe she’ll get tired of waiting for that candle and finally swoop in and knock around some Boltons. But what’s even more likely is that she’ll run into Stannis who is also loitering around the periphery of Winterfell. Though this confrontation hasn’t happened in the books, Game of Thrones telegraphed their showdown earlier this year. Initially, I thought it would be a morally complex battle between two characters we’re rooting for. But now I am fully Team Brienne. Stannis burned his daughter and a lot of bridges last week. These two may not meet in the finale at all, but if they do, I hope Brienne makes like a smoke baby and gets to stabbing Baratheons.

Davos vs. the Red Woman: If Brienne gets the honor of stabbing Stannis, then surely there should be some revenge left for Shireen’s best friend, the Onion Knight. He’s at the Wall (presumably), and Melisandre is all the way out at Stannis’s camp, so a finale showdown seems unlikely. Then again, Carice van Houten did imply that Melisandre’s business at the Wall wasn’t done this season. So who knows? She may be brimming with fiery powers at the moment, but once she’s depleted, Davos really should make use of his one good hand and choke the life out of her.

Arya vs. Meryn Trant: This takedown seems the most inevitable, doesn’t it? The man is on her list (for killing her fencing instructor, Syrio Forel,) and lo and behold he shows up in Braavos. And if his nasty deeds in past seasons weren’t enough to make us root for his downfall, we now find out he’s a pedophile. Arya better quickly unbury Needle and slice the name Meryn Trant off her list. Though this confrontation doesn’t happen in the books (Meryn is nowhere near Braavos), there are some book-based indications as to how this will all go down. You’ve seen Hard Candy, haven’t you? The only questions that remain are (a) how long will we actually have to watch Maisie Williams pose as an underage prostitute (uncomfortable!) before we get that sweet, sweet revenge and (b) will it actually be Williams in this scene? There have been some hints in both the trailer for next week and a pre-season interview that Arya will try on a different face this season. Will that be the face that Meryn Trant sees as he dies? Hopefully not—I think we all want to see the look of triumph on a Starkish face. It’s such a rare occurrence.

Dorne vs. the Ocean: Listen I, perhaps foolishly, have some high hopes for Dorne in the Season 5 finale. Specifically, I would like to see a certain speech from Prince Doran. But the region has been such a letdown this season that if they don’t do something truly spectacular in the finale I’m going to need the show to put an end to Dorne once and for all. You remember that they’re near the coast, right? My seven kingdoms for a tsunami to sweep this entire mess away.

Wun-Wun vs. Olly: I think even non–book readers have cottoned on to the fact that Olly has it out for Jon Snow. But those of us who knew the Lord Commander was barreling toward a mutinous stabbing this season have definitely figured it out by now. Olly is going to stop looking daggers and start plunging them. But that’s not exactly an act of revenge we’re rooting for, is it? Jon Snow doesn’t deserve death (temporary though it may be) and certainly not at the hands of this little show-invented brat. But what would be nice is if we could see some swift justice for Olly’s betrayal. In the books, the giant Wun-Wun rips apart a knight called Ser Patrek of King’s Mountain. (A fun inside joke from George R.R. Martin.) This act of violence distracts Jon and that’s when his men stab him. But whether or not Wun-Wun is around to kick off the mutiny in the show, I hope he arrives to clean up the joint at the end. (Something like this would do quite nicely.) Because after killing Ygritte and stabbing Jon Snow, Olly has got to go.

Another update

HBO is casting for new characters for season 6, they're looking for an actor to play a young Ned Stark, an elderly man with wisdom far beyond his years (Jon Arryn maybe ?) and 2 pirates who are said to be major additions.

I suspect they dropped that on purpose because they gonna do something huge with the flashbacks.

Which is crazy because I saw director interviews where they said they avoid flashbacks and have gone back and deleted

Several. I think the cersei one was the first and only flashback.

I honestly wish they could use more flashbacks.

I'd drop the link but it has spoilers in it. Yall can google at your own discretion. For the people who don't want to know I would recommend just waiting until after the season finale.

@Sion Shoot that link this way bruh.

they should avoid flashbacks so thay once the show is over they can do prequel movies..

movies on the first men and the kids and shit ant the Targaryens and Valleria would be dope..

i could see a trilogy

10 episode miniseries on the Dance of Dragons or Aegon the Conqueror taking down the 7 kingdoms would be dope af

Another good idea is the backstory on the man under the tree/3 eyed crow with bran, if the theory on who they say he is is true

I know it's common knowledge to some folks but I know most disciplined pple that ain't clicking no spoilers like myself don't want to know who's contract is being extended because then we know he or she survives the season. One of the best things of GOT is that any main character can get murked at anytime so it's fun not knowing. A nigga like me ain't privy to contract negotiations because I just watch the show and enjoy the discussions on here after.
