It may seem like some tv/movie shit but people have been attacked/robbed/raped/killed by people who've knocked on their front door as the way to get in. Hell I just saw on the show Panic 911 where they show 911 calls and this dude tried to break into this woman's house while her daughter was home from school by simply knocking on the door at first and she ended up having to shoot his ass.

That shit is different. You're talking about people ringing the bell or knocking on the door normally and then robbing the unexpected answerer. Maybe I'm mistaken, but it seems like from this story, dude was making a real raucous and even after she answered, he made no attempt to rob her, he just kept on yelling at her through the door. This is true as well because on that same episode a woman was nearly stabbed to death by her boyfriend after banging on a woman's door screaming for help and the women didn't open the door. She sent her kids upstairs, told them to lock the door and called 911 while the woman just stood outside screaming to be let in until her boyfriend came up and stabbed her. Shit is a crap shoot but I won't really fault someone for not opening their door to a stranger barring something catastrophic is happening like a hurricane, tornado or some shit like that. I will fault them if they try to come up with some bullshit reason other than "I didn't know who they were/if they really needed help" reason though
