This Is Disturbing: NBA Player’s Wife Charged With Attacking Him With Box Cutter

That headline pretty much sums this one up, but here’s more. Kenya Bell, former Miss Michigan and wife of Charlie Bell of the Golden State Warriors, was charged with assault and domestic violence yesterday after attacking her husband with a box cutter. Thankfully, Charlie Bell only sustained minor injuries.
That sounds bad enough, but according to one of the few details released by Genesee County (Mich.) Prosecutor David Leyton, it gets worse:
The assault occurred inside Charile Bell’s home in Grand Blanc Township in the presence of two children, Leyton said.
There’s really no already-disturbing-sounding incident that isn’t made worse by the involvement of kids, even tangentially. Maybe it was the fact that children were around that led Leyton to deem the attack “a tragic situation,” and that the Bells are “entitled to some privacy” (true, of course).
Making this all the more bizarre is that, as Black Sports Online’s Robert Littal notes, this isn’t even the only recent reported case of an athlete being attacked with a sharp object by a significant other. Reports indicate the Bells are estranged – we’d say that’s for the best.
Also, Bell has already tweeted about the incident, which seems to us to be a remarkably quick turnaround time. Here’s what he said:
I’m fine. I didn’t get stabbed. Lol. #thatisall
“Lol” probably wouldn’t be a thought at the front of our minds after we were reportedly attacked with a box cutter, but hey, to each his own. And if he’s in good enough shape to laugh about it, that’s…something, at least. Still, seems to us like in the Bells’ case, it’s probably best if “estranged” becomes “no contact anywhere, ever.”
