If I remember right, I was in the 8th grade when 50 came out with die trying, as a little 12 13 year old, I was always listening to the radio, I thought that 50 shit was flames, I remember listening to the album and thinking damn this dude could rhyme any word together. Right around that time, I wasn't into hip hop yet.

Right around that time I was chilling with my older brother who took me to his friends house, and his friend put on talib kweli, and blasted the music. It was the song on his quality album, the Rush. So I'm sitting there chilling and hearing kweli talking about you get chucked D ed, shut the fuck down, and then he began rapping, I come through with the spiritual lyrical raw shit I spit at you, I was like what the fuck? Then I heard him say "smack a nigga till my motherfucking hand swell" I was blown away. I begged my brothers friend to burn the disk for me. Then he gave me a list of rappers, it had nas canibus rakim and a bunch of others on it.

Now I look back and laugh everytime I think about thinking how 50 was the best and could rhyme any word together. No disrespect to 50 and his fans though.

I started listening to it around 1995-1997. I remember hearing "Who I Am (What's My Name)" (a lil late of course), "Gangsta's Paradise", "California Love", the Fugees' cuts, "If I Ruled The World" by Nas, a few Busta cuts, Wu's "Triumph" & things like that.

I'd say i became a bigger fan around 1998-2000. Remember hearing "Can I Get A..." & "Hard Knock Life" from Jigga, hearing Eminem debut & how i never took him seriously until "The Way I Am" & "Stan", Snoop's "No Limit Top Dogg/"Tha Last Meal" days, Dre's "2001" & things like that.

That's when it really hit me.
