It was lil Wayne around carter 2 and it was hustlers muzik I was like 15, I never really grew up on hiphop in my home I didn't have a big brother to show me it like that my big sisters only showed me r&b she had me singing dru hill as a youngin lol

Still haven't dug deep into hiphop as much as I want to being that there's so much music out today and I'm trying to keep up but I will someday

Grandmaster Flash - The Message (my parents kept me under their thumb when I was young... didn't get to the harder stuff I was a teen)

I see "Gangstas Paradise" getting a lot of love. I swear I used to order joint on The Box RELIGIOUSLY without permission, it was serious.

All these young niggas in here, carry ye asses to bed for I take off my belt, lol...

That's a hard question because hip hop was 2nd nature to me that was my culture it wasn't oh I liked rap it was this is what I am, I'm supposed to do this it was natural I thought every black kid lived this that's how real it was, but to be honest I remember breaking to planet rock, the show and la di da di, the message, run dmc rock box, listening to 2 short freaky tales...

But it was NWA gangsta gangsta that blew my mind and I was like this is it, that's how strong the impact NWA had on me, and I was breaking, tried to dj by fuckin up my dad records, and graffiti but it was NWA trip off of that

NWA - Gangsta Gangsta

and this was after i was carrying a boom box blasting LL COOL J Radio and IM BAD, after i was rapping to RUN DMC illin, watching BEAT STREET in the movie theaters, i was a b-boy to the heart but NWA was talking to me more because i'm from the left coast, and i was listening to MIXMASTER SPADE and Rodney O and Joe Cooly also

Shook ones-mobb deep

I heard this for the first time at work in 04 I was like 15. I'm like hey what song is this. After that, I bought the infamous cd. Rest is history.

Outkast Ms Jackson was the first song I ever looked up the lyrics for to learn it.

NWA Boyz In The Hood tho made me love hip hop and want to dig deeper

If I remember right, I was in the 8th grade when 50 came out with die trying, as a little 12 13 year old, I was always listening to the radio, I thought that 50 shit was flames, I remember listening to the album and thinking damn this dude could rhyme any word together. Right around that time, I wasn't into hip hop yet.

Right around that time I was chilling with my older brother who took me to his friends house, and his friend put on talib kweli, and blasted the music. It was the song on his quality album, the Rush. So I'm sitting there chilling and hearing kweli talking about you get chucked D ed, shut the fuck down, and then he began rapping, I come through with the spiritual lyrical raw shit I spit at you, I was like what the fuck? Then I heard him say "smack a nigga till my motherfucking hand swell" I was blown away. I begged my brothers friend to burn the disk for me. Then he gave me a list of rappers, it had nas canibus rakim and a bunch of others on it.

Now I look back and laugh everytime I think about thinking how 50 was the best and could rhyme any word together. No disrespect to 50 and his fans though.

Depends.

I started listening to it around 1995-1997. I remember hearing "Who I Am (What's My Name)" (a lil late of course), "Gangsta's Paradise", "California Love", the Fugees' cuts, "If I Ruled The World" by Nas, a few Busta cuts, Wu's "Triumph" & things like that.

I'd say i became a bigger fan around 1998-2000. Remember hearing "Can I Get A..." & "Hard Knock Life" from Jigga, hearing Eminem debut & how i never took him seriously until "The Way I Am" & "Stan", Snoop's "No Limit Top Dogg/"Tha Last Meal" days, Dre's "2001" & things like that.

That's when it really hit me.
