"The early release follows actions by the US Sentencing Commission, an independent agency that sets sentencing policies for federal crimes. The panel reduced the potential punishment for drug offenders last year and made the change retroactive.
The commission's action is separate from an effort by US President Barack Obama to grant clemency to some nonviolent drug offenders, an initiative that has resulted in the early release of 89 inmates"
He shouldve moved the Office of Pardon to the White House in Year 1. He shouldve granted more pardons and clemency by now - 89 for nonviolent drug offenders over 6 going on 7 years. This should have been his "gift", word to Jeb Bush and Mitt Romney, to the black voters.
He gets a B for this, but he could've and could do more. Instead of dicking riding him, the black caucus, naacp, urban league should be raising hell.
C'mon bruh.

Aye look. Fed time ain't hard time per se unless you in a big sandy type institution, but if I just did 15 day for day i'm just happy to be home, also, the era of not being able to find a decent paying job is over. You won't get your own office, but there's good jobs out there. Either in construction or creating your own business. My peoples is a plumber by trade now and get all kinds of work. Another homie I know do HVAC and he up, he don't hustle or nothin. I was in the county for 2 weeks and I ain't give a fuck about shit when I got out but breathing real air, so imagine 10 years. They'll find their way, that "just got outta jail" hustle will inspire anybody lol.
Come on?
It's one of the only areas that the president has real singular power over. What you mean come on? Stop giving him a pass
A pass..... Bruh he just let 6000 people out. I think he earned a pass.
No he didn't, those are separate from pardons or clemency which he has control over. Those released, while justified and great, were done by the sentencing commission based on current law (which he had a hand in passing and deserves credit) applied retroactively. He's on pace to pardon less people than Bush, Clinton, or Reagan - take that in. More can be done, this is the one of the areas where he doesn't need congressional approval. USE IT.

I've been arguing with negroes left and right that there will never be reparations or legislations that will benefit black Americans solely. That's not how the system is set up, you can benefit a group of ppl disproportionately.
I give Obama credit for pushing a bill for sentencing reform bill in first term and the fruit of that labor is being rewarded. You are right I should've started with giving him credit first.
BUT The president can use his pardon and clemency with no recourse. There are plenty of black men who've been out and haven't re-offended or even those spending long years for drug crimes that are not covered under this sentencing reform; why not use advocacy groups to identify those men, set up an office in the White House to do background checks on their cases, and pardon them.
He can "gift" this to the black community. He granted amnesty to illegal immigrants, pending in court, that covers more people than the pardons/clemency would. You're in your second term who cares what other people will think.

I respect your opinion bro. Thanks for not goin the 'negative response' route.
My only issue is Obama is the president of the US, not the president of niggaz lol so what if he pardons 1,000 inmates and 980 of them are white? Are you OK with that?
I honestly think some black ppl have unrealistic, never-seen-before expectations of this man who has already EXCEEDED the life-long aspirations of many of those same people. It's saddening tbh

No disagree,
That's how politics work, you vote for me - my agenda benefits you. Old people
are active voters - their medicare social security prescription hardly gets cut. Rich people vote for GOP to get lower taxes, gays vote for Dems to eventually get marriage equality, finance donates to both parties so no matter what regulations aren't too onerous. The one area where he has almost 100% control - black people don't want to hold his feet to the fire? Clinton pardoned his brother for goodness sake, then went on to do 400+ others. Carter 500+ , Obama at 89 with a year to go? Not giving him a pass.
You realize the percentage of black voters was as high as white voters in 2012.

I agree 100% with the bolded..even the groups you listed (gays, old, rich) all push for their agenda. However (as I see you were smart enough NOT to list) BLACK PEOPLE cannot all be grouped together like the other groups because we don't/can't all agree on a similar issue. I support what you're saying to an extent, it sounds great to have the first black president free a bunch of locked up niggas to spit in the white cops and judges faces who put them there...
BUT
Whats the real point of doing this? What does Obama stand to gain by freeing a bunch of criminals (sorry) just because he black and so are they? Your approval? Not worth it at all
