No, you can't. You need to pay attention to what's going on around you when you're driving. Sitting at a light is no different. Legally there's no difference between sitting at a light or driving down the block and I have yet to see a law on the books that says it's ok to text at a light.

Messican dude was texting, thought he saw a green and hit his gas. What he saw was actually the green for the turning lane, not for the rest of us. Cops took a look at his phone and determined he was texting pretty much non-stop for the last 30 minutes and sent a text to someone talmbout "aw shit, I just hit a truck at the light". Thankfully I was in my Durango so the only damage I took was some scratches on my bumper but his whole hood was FUCKED.

I would also keep an old cell phone in my arm rest just for situations like this.

Are they penalizing people for using GPS?Scrolling through maps and directions can be distracting too.

Around the end of November I had to get some docs filed at the courthouse. My van was down so I took a Lyft to go file my paperwork. Everything was cool until the driver looked down at the GPS screen to make sure he was going the right way, missed a stop sign and almost got me killed. The street he started to cross was a one-way with no stop sign. The cars slammed on their brakes as did the Lyft driver (like a moron). I ended up with a white Accord inches away from the door I was sitting next to. It was close enough that if I had rolled down the window I could have touched the fuckin hood.

All I got out of his ass was a "sorry dude".
