i think its fine the way it is. i think once the membership goes up then we should consider new subforums.
im glad to see this is up for discussion. id imagine this thread to be on going so ill post thoughts as they come to me and as i see needs.
since i mod ill pix, ill give my vision on that room for now
as for that uncut thread that was made today, thats pretty much a casualty of what we had going on in the v bulletin platform. alot of posters are just continuing what was going on before this new upgrade. so i didnt ban the guy who made it, he's good poster and was never a problem. he even used the spoiler feature so that the nudes wouldnt just be out there. but anyway, a while ago i was getting bombarded with "why cant we post nudes" blah blah blah. people would sneak nudes in here and there and id either edit or delete the thread. so to meet the demand half way, i created 1 thread where all nude pics could be posted. it was that thread and that thread only. I WAS ACTUALLY HOPING TO BRING THAT THREAD BACK BECAUSE IT WAS ONE OF THE MOST POPULAR THREADS ON THE ENTIRE BOARD. IT HAD OVER 1 MILLION VIEWS/POSTS IN A TIME SPAN OF ABOUT 4 MONTHS LOL.
now that the board is intergrated with the main page i understand the crackdown. so what i wanted to do for ill pix is have a subforum that is only accessed by posters who are hand selected by us. i checked with todd o and he let me know that it is possible. the subforum will only be visible or accessible to those members who we choose (pretty much like the mod room). its main purpose is to function as an exclusive area to get the best ill pix content first and also have access to more "adult" threads such as the uncut thread. threads like the uncut thread will remain in the exclusive area. but other more "friendly" content can be eventually moved to the main ill pix area.
in the past, and im sure jay and others can vouch for this, i encouraged posters to post other content besides just half "nekkit" babes. it was accepted by a few, but the vast majority of posters really felt that their entertainment was in jeopardy lol. they felt that by me pushing this agenda that the beautiful women and what not would eventually go away in favor of other themes like funny pictures, powerful black historic images, animated gifs, and other various content. once i ushered alot of those threads in, the room ran smooth because it brought a nice mixture. but in all honesty the threads with beautiful and half "nekkit" women were by far doing the most numbers and getting the most activity. and remember, ever since i became mod in ill pix, it has had the most UNIQUE visitors and members activity coming in only 2nd to the reason. at any given time there would be around 200 members and guests (mostly guests tho) in ill pix.
the top threads were
the uncut thread
the ppm (powerful porn movement)
the web cam thread (candid pics of around the way girls and even "models", rnb singers, and "vixens"
and then an assortment of other various threads.
in all actuality, the subforum hurts the chances of reaching those type of numbers again because the guests wont be able to view or "lurk" the most popular content anymore, but i think the incentive of gaining access to that sub forum will bring more overall activity, which will promote the more "friendly" content and bring more users who are entertained by that kind of content. the whole idea is pretty much a compromise between the viewers who depend on ill pix for the beautiful women and half nekkit babes lol and the viewers who want more versatility in that room

I'm the moderator of The Essence...
As Essence moderator, I hope that the name doesn't change. In the current years where rappers like Flo-Rida have become the 'hottest' if you like, I feel The Essence pertains to the rawness of talented artists who want to stay true to the essence of hip hop. I love the slogan to the sub-forum and I don't want to change anything with that sub-forum as I feel I've already invented or continued in some cases, the winning formula for that sub-forum which is to have playlists, artists of the months, albums of the week etc. The sub-forum is all about exposing individuals to the talented artists who drop album's which are, in my opinion, better than the mainstream (by some way). It's like the holy grail once people who have an ear for that music discover it but we don't have as many posters... granted, but the 'What You Bumpin' Right Now' thread has over 30,000 views, which for a sub-forum with about 20-30 regular posters (at its most high), it's not half bad.
The problem with being underground on a mainstream site is that generally, posters care less about discovering hip hop nowadays, which is a sad reality, they're stuck in the 'who's signed' category rather than 'who's the nicest?'
What I would like to see, which has only been recently brought to my attention is this:
A room in each of The Reason sub-forums where playlists can be made and streamed directly from the sub-forum. This would create a real sharing possibility for discovery of the best tastes of posters, where posters can create playlists and we can all enjoy and discover the music through them...
Is this possible? As there is a site calledturntable.com turntable.fm that apparently does something similar to this... but it's US only. So I haven't been able to view it.
This could be a password thing similar to how Uptown was discussing for IllPix.

I think the display of the forum can slowly move beyond the Vbulletin look. I only used it to not shock everyone as we relaunched. But I think the threads having some sort of related graphic to pull people in (IE like a post on AllHipHop) could be dope.

The Reason is going pretty smooth. Everyone is respecting the new rules such as cursing in titles and the nudity issue. Were slowly getting back and having us mods being able to ban is doing wonders. I encountered my first spam bot today and took him out before anybody could tell. As long as nobody abuses that power we should be good.
Im with Sion with moving the IC Rapper thread somewhere else as well.

I think the talent arenas should be streamlined, and become subforums of The Reason. One of the mods had great ideas on how to do so, but he hasn't returned yet. : / I had his ideas in a pm, but all pm's got wiped out.

Still waiting to see how the IllPix ideas will be implemented...viewable to the public or not? Or having it's own, viewable to long-time posters, subforum?

How about a Trending Topics on the IC for the front page!?
You gotta be careful how and what decides which topics get displayed tho. Maybe mods can throw current threads in the mix and let the coding display the links on the front page randomly.

I think that is a good idea... only attorneys can give legal advice however sharing experiences and posting facts about the laws could be helpful.
