Appeal to the masses: It was written made Nas household name, Reasonable doubt not originally appreciated is now argued to be one of Jay's only classics, Rass Kass is still mostly unknown by the casual fan... I'll leave Album sales out of this... If Reasonable Doubt dropped quiet as a toothpick at the time, Soul on Ice might as well been underground and basically still is. ok if were going by sales then reasonble doubt should'nt be up there either cause it did'nt sell much either but selling alot of records does'nt make u the better rapper because if it did mc hammer would be the greatest of all time but that is irrelevant bottom line is ras kass is the better lyricist then both jay-z and nas

As obscure as soul on ice was, it DID get instant acclaim and respect.......................UNLIKE REASONABLE DOUBT AND IT WAS WRITTEN

Look at the professional reviews for RD in 1996 all positive. It just never sold as much as IWW,AEOM,makeveli,The score(all albums its better then IMO)

IWW was not critically panned, it was either 4 or 4.5 mics in the source while the source was still the most credible magazine for hip hop reviews. Reasonable Doubt nor IWW had classic status when it dropped. IWW wasn't Illmatic part 2 which was what people were expecting from Nas, but it was still a great album and was recognized as a great album, just not classic the way Illmatic was.

Except the source iww good mixed to bad reviews
