They guy's comments might have merit if Elvis actually acknowledged that his whole routine was taken from Blacks and if he used his success to put black artists on. As it stands there is no merit to what he's saying. I mean did Elvis even do any high profile collaborations with any black entertainers?

If I can deal with the semantics of the original statement, i would say that it is true if you replace the word "advance" with "influence". The word "influence" is not inherently positive or negative. I feel like the influence (negative) of Elvis is unrivaled. he let corporate America see that black music can be pimped on an ASTRONOMICAL scale. this has greatly affected the thrust of black music in America ever since. Elvis is the catalyst that tipped the balance. He showed and proved that the soul-stealing process can be white-washed and packaged for mass consumption. Thats why whatever genre of "black" music in America you examine today, the people at the head of their fields are about the SALES as top priority and not the HEART AND SOUL of the music itself. Elvis' influence on black music in America is unmatched and its a terrible thing. he made soul-stealing in the realm of music a viable, super-industry.

Nah I got to disagree here. White people had been doing that way before Elvis. If you look back to the 20s and 30s, a lot of the popular music back then was primarily from Blacks. White people had already mastered pimping black music and culture for their own benefit.

There is one thing they learned with Elvis though. The only thing better than pimping black culture is finding a white person who can imitate it and then pimping that person.

What does that have to do with anything? Elvis didn't pimp either of those dudes. Elvis' estate is huge because white people love them some Elvis, that's all there is to it. Him and his people wronged the ones the jacked for those songs, but you can't blame Elvis for the fact that Chuck Berry and Fats Domino didn't get their just due.
