His most mainstream and accessible work thus far is his debut album, 'Camp'. He's kind of a backpack nigga who touches on some interesting themes, like:

1. Being too black for white people and too white for black people

2. Getting famous all of a sudden and the shift in how people treat you

3. Growing up being a nerd in a city like Atlanta that is famous for trap rap and shit like that

Etc, Etc. Camp is actually a pretty dope project. I can't really get with the rest of his shit though. Too experimental. Son actually has bars though if you give him a shot. Real creative punchlines and shit too.

From Village Voice:

Tacking on a new chorus, Glover gets the crowd of hipsters, b-boys, and the girls who dragged their friends with the promise of seeing the guy from Community to chant "Fuck Rap Cool" at end of "Freaks." Rainbow Coalition throwing their hands up in the air to fuck all pretense. All conformity.

People have called Glover's Gambino "emo rap" and it's not all that far off. There's pain there. Alienation. Pining for girls. Being called "faggot
by other black guys." But Glover's message is slightly schizophrenic, moving from lines about emotional distance ("It seems the more I try to connect with the world/
I am feeling more alone than I ever have felt before") to hardcore swagger ("I'm a sick boy, nigga"). "When I cough I hope you catch it/My germs in your system, now you coughin' like asthmatic" which Glover raps, over a Sleigh Bells' "Infinity Guitars," on the crunchy "The Real."

this nigga the definition of emo rap. this is not even up for debate.

so going by someone else's evaluation of his material makes him an emo rapper?

how is his subject matter (for the most part) any different from the likes of drake, wayne, cudi even eminem?are we classing them as emo rappers as well now?

his character may be corny at times yeah but him actually being himself on tracks gets a lot more respect from me than the next man who consistently rhymes about drugs, cars, women etc.

Bruh its not that serious to me

I never said he shouldn't be respected, as I said I listen to his stuff at times

if someone classified drake, cudi, and eminem (At times) as being emo rappers, i wouldnt disagree

i still like all of them tho

i'm just saying man, regardless whether it came from your mouth or not (which it didnt here, even though you said its not debatable) it pisses me off when rappers get pigeonholed into a certain type.someone like bino getting too emotional on tracks is no different in tone to me than say 2pac dedicating songs to his mother.

going by that logic 'ye is the biggest emo rapper around.

Bino is dope. When niggas drop tracjs randomly was the time to listen. Go youtube and soundscan him like any other artist.

Go listen to Freaks and Geeks. Then listen to Bonfire. If you ain't feeling him after that, go listen to all of Royalty. Still not feeling him? Accidentally break your musical listening device. Also check out Derrick Comedy on YouTube. Dude deserves to win.

Oh no, it came out my mouth. That dude is emo. That doesnt mean he shouldn't be respected tho.

And dear mama is not emo. For lack of a better definition, emo is inward based complaining or dare I say, whining, about things in a manner more associated with women. That is not a hard definition, but it fits. You mentioned drake and cudi. Those are two of the mpst emo dudes around. And you say kanye must be biggest emo dude of all, no shit! The guy complains about fashion blogs mot accepting jom, he claims he is on par with walt Disney, he throws tantrums when he doesn't get an award, he screams that kim Kardashian is most important woman in the universe, and all sorts of emo shit.

Drake raps abt calling up his exgirl and wondering why she left him and saying he can be a better dude and please listen to him

Cudi raps about how no one understand him and he is lonely and his dad left so he stayed in his room and ppl made fun of him

This is definition of the shit.

If kanye, cudi, drake and gambino made a song it works be a big hot pot of emo soup. You can add in frank ocean on the hook singing about how he is in love with his girlfriend's brother and its just tormenting him so much to hide it.

Im not saying anything on the quality of the music, but all these ppl you mentioning are some emo sensitive muh fuckas.

Because the internet is the most slept on project in music. Its probably the most important and accurate descrtpion of the current generation from a subconcious and pyschological standpoint.Dont believe me? check out the website, blog, rapgenius, interviews, etc.

Dude is a genius and a great actor and creator. His credit for this masterpiece is not credited because not alot understand the point of it. it took me a while to comprehend the whole project. On first listen, its distorted, obnoxious, and chaotic with no direction. With more listens and reading the 300 page script you will get it.

There is a script and vids and everything
