hip hop has reached a point where if your rhymes are good then you're a "gimmick" ? a1000miles you need to clarify why you think joey's style is a gimmick.

It can be considered a gimmick because it is a throwback style, he is one of the only new cats I have heard using it and its reminiscent of an older era, also it helps him attract the attention of listeners. In all actuality every rapper has a gimmick though. I personally don't think a gimmick is negative all the time Walmart's gimmick is being cheap nothings wrong with that, gimmicks just helps something stand out.

I don't view his style as a throwback. I guess the use of certain beats give that impression, but I don't think his goal is to make 90's style music. I do believe it's an inspiration though.

How is Joey impersonating Nas in your opinion?.. Joey and Nas don't even rap/sound alike.. I never heard Joey rap like how Nas did on The World Is Yours, What Goes Around, I Gave You Power, etc.

To me...It's more do in the way the construct their bars...It's not how they sound...Earl don't SOUND anything like Em..He puts his words together that way though...With Joey, he's more of a punchlines nigga while Nas was always more of a story teller...But the way they play off each word to the next is similar...

EVERY rapper has a gimmick. It's part of marketing and branding yourself.
