I''m surprised you didn't ask for her feet pic, duke. But any I disapprove of this topic. Pac and Em were both controversial that's why they sold. Backpacker are deem as boring to the mass appeal.

Pac and Em sold because of controversy AND skill. Plenty of rap niggas got controversial personal lives, but don't sell. Wake up stupid nigga.

All of Nas' solo albums either went gold or platinum. Also, album sales are not where the artist make their money. The majority of their revenue comes from shows and tours... Educate yourself before commenting on certain subjects.

Co-sign. And you can't tour 10 years after your debut unless you got skills and something of substance to offer the fans.

I AM a part of the majority and so are you and so is the person next to you and so on and so on. Once we start demanding more, we'll get more. We do make the rules, contrary to popular belief. We vote with our walletts young brotha. It's not about caterin to me, it's about caterin to your soul.

The art of making catchy music while spitting ill lyrics must be lost. I dont wanna sound "old" but cats in the 90's did this shit with ease.

Negroes just want to get paid. Rather be Jeezy than Lupe. Deal with it

Shouts out to Based God

Ignorant post...

Lupe has more money than Jeezy. Lupe has his own clothing line, his own action figure, his own label, and his own band.

Also, judging by their character and/or their music, I would be inclined to say that Jeezy is the type of person to buy a nice car, and a nice chain aka waste money, while Lupe is the type to invest his money and quadruple up.

Pac sold because of his image, and Em sells because he's white and a shock rapper that can do anything he wants.

Well fall back then, the black community don't need you. We need men who wil be responsible and stand up for our youth and demand something of substance when it comes to influential artists. And, we need artists to be actual artists and not "hustlers" son.

I don't give a damn if the blk community doesn't need me. Jay made this shit his hustle, and i can't be upset at him. If he was still on the RD shit he would be in the same position as Common, Talib, and etc. Not gettin' notoriety and making moves. Jay dumbed down his music to be successful and that's amazing.

Nigga you are too stupid to live. Common and Talib HAVE notoriety and ARE makin moves.

Like I said, it's not an ARTIST'S job to appeal to the lowest common denominator, it's their job to RAISE it. Whether they like it or not, they are role models for the black youth.

Rappers as "role models"? Boy, I feel sorry those to think of them as that. So, are Common and Talib known throughout the world? Then, why aren't they selling or goin' 4X Platinum?

well then shut yo sissy ass up then

you can't control what other muhfuckas wanna hear

if they wanna hear stupid shit then who are you to tell an artist to go against the grain?

at the end of the day hip hop is a business and a job

if it ain't payin the bills, why do it?

ain't no nigga gon switch they style up to appease you and niggas like you

just so they can sell 2400 albums?

just so they can perform in front of packed out crowds of 139 people?

how bout this

how bout you support your favorite artist

and shut yo bitch ass up

Cuh.

Hip-hop is an art.

People calling it a business just shows how it really died and how it's being extorted.

That said, as an art niggas ain't obligated to try to educate. You paint the world with your rhymes however you like.

I find it funny when you address this same issue to cats, they act as if the generation of rap today is top supreme. Yet, they fail to site any lyrics from their "fav" rappers that offer any type of intellect or insight. I agree that times have changed and im fine with that. What I dont understand is the fact that since times have changed, this means originality or "depth" are thrown out the window. That means quantity over quality beats all. Yea pac was a back in the day rapper. But his music is timeless and it spoke truth. And if people lied pac because of his image then i highly doubt his work would be studied in college. Eminem is lyrical but only in because he "shocks" you. Nas is a well rounded rapper, as well as pac, jay-z(old jigga) and lupe. These are the artist who provide timeless music. Drake is only hot now...but in 10 yrs will i bump his music in my whip? nope( cuz i dont even bump it now) lil wayne....hes good a lyrical metaphors but when you ACTUALLY LISTEN...he's not talking about shit. Gucci....(lets not waste our time)..jeezy...hes came along way. So I agree wil threadstarter..WE vote with our wallets and WE allow the same monotony of music to be played over and over. You have artist like z-ro who will never see the recognition that he deserves because he doesnt conform to the nonsense. So hate if you want but the truth is the truth.

I'm not sayin they HAVE to educate, I'm just sayin atleast be skilled. The Clipse don't educate, but they are SKILLED lyrically and because of that you get something more than just coke rhymes out of their music. And, I don't think that rappers should be role models, but it doesn't matter what I think or what they think cuz the fact is the youth DO look up to them.

By that logic, we shouldn't have had the impressionist and cubism eras in art.

Because all artists should at least be trying to be the most skilled at drawing.
