None of this is shocking coming from the mixed Canadian. He's not going to understand the black American struggle.

He doesn't understand black American struggle - facts. I'm Jamaican and wouldn't pretend to either, I can empathize but I'm not a product of American slavery. While drakes father is, he grew up a child star in Canada. He is who he is, he shouldn't pretend to be something he's not because that started from the bottom is fiction

I'm confused.

The songs he got Grammys for are not rap song.

What is wrong with what he said?

He wants to win in the pop category which is what his Grammy awarded songs are.

Furthermore this is nothing like Post Malone. Drake is not saying he is not a rapper.

Need to find another reason to hate as this one doesn't work.

Hmmm...so Jamaicans were not originally transported from Africa to work the sugar plantations during the slave trade?

I consider myself moderately intelligent and it does not take much for me to understand the black American struggle. I live in the UK and I am of Caribbean decent.

There are differences. Different histories - Jamaica gained independence and are a majority black country, JA has internal problems based on class and/or colorism. But the day to day importance of stark skin color, as in white-black, isn't there and I didn't experience that till I moved from JA. Now imagine that white-black experience multiplied by generations.

Add in the cultural differences. Like I said I can empathize but our experiences and what the government owes them (African Americans) reparations are different.

The man even said it himself, its one thing to say from afar that's fucked up, it's another thing to experience it day in day out and your forefathers did as well.

He acts as if being recognized for pop songs is a better accomplishment and hes belittling rap. By saying "apparently I'm a rapper" hes basically saying that he doesnt want to be viewed as such no pun

Which is not that different from Post Malone not wanting to be called a rapper. These mfs cant use hip hop for the come up and when they big enough they wanna start shitting on it

Ok fair enough. I personally find it hard to understand how any person of colour who is in touch with current affairs cannot understand the black mans plight in America or around the world for that matter, now and historically.

Oh so he doesn't want to be viewed as a HipHop artiste anymore huh?

And that's why the Grammys regarding rap music have been a joke since they started awarding that genre. Dude sang all through 'Hotline Bling' and he's awarded a rap award

I doubt he cares about the plight. He's there to bag bitches and make money

And he claims to have written 1/2 of "Know Yourself" lol...

Best rappers in the world are from London...

This whole interview was funny af imo...

"Apparently I'm a rapper"

"I've rapped in the past"

"I write pop songs for a reason"

Guess he needs to spell it out for some of yall

His pops is a black American and should slap some sense into him.

But honestly people see dude as a rapper and that's not going to change. He should've switched it up in the beginning and not proclaim himself as one of the goat "rappers" before the ghost writing.

They will never see this dude as a rapper the same way they will never see Snoop as a reagee artist

Bruh said what many voices in the Reason have said over the yrs, he ain't a rapper. Doesn't wanna be a rapper. Came in the game as a rapper cause it's really the easiest genre to break into.

No reason for his fans to continue to pigeonhole him as a rapper, let him be the Pop Star the world needs.
