Did not watch the whole thing, but from what I heard, some of it sounds very doubtful.

I'm not surprised, since so many of these IC dudes swear by him.

@jono you want proof that little boys act differently than little girls and that they learn differently???? now umar got the hormone wrong but the heart of what he is saying is correct

"Boys have less serotonin and oxytocin -- hormones that play a role in promoting a sense of calm -- than girls. That's why it's more likely that young boys will fidget and act impulsively. "Teachers think the boy who can't sit still and is wriggling in his chair and making noise is being defiant," Leonard Sax, MD, author of Why Gender Matters and Boys Adrift

Even when girls couldn't go to school the educational system was the same. Hell even going back to Aristotle the concept of lecturer and student has been the same.

Kid sits while teacher teaches. This also has nothing to do with their ability to learn.

Sax is a hack yet you bring up a book from a known feminsit who clearly would have a bias.

The educational system of the past in this country did not do the best job it could for boys just like it does a horrible job now. You do argument no good to bring up aristotle the ancient greeks of high class basically had one on one mentorship and tutoring.

Okay so they both biased. Sax is trying to promote single gender education systems and failing and i guess the author of that book is a feminist but i dont see where the science is wrong or false.

As far as the high class that still goes on right now. I dont see the purpose of bringing that up.

Second and more importantly, this is about the tradition of the educational system where in the world do they teach the way you or Sax are advocating? Where?

Even when you look at Africa the Griots were the same as the common teacher today.

And today the common African teacher is the same. In societies with higher educational attainment than the U.S. THEY TEACH THE SAME

The concept of kids chillin and learning through words despite any physical difference, if any, is the same the world over and has been for centuries.

Stop playing with me Smokey

In africa of the past there were not 15-20 kids sitting down in a class room all day, african society did not use that form of education. I brung up the past only because you brung up ARISTOTLE, BUT YOU are wrong any way because centuries ago most people were educated directly under a master or by parents. Centuries ago The upper class had schools for their children but most of them had very few students SO IT is going to be much easier to instill discipline in 6 students than it would be 20.

You want to know were they teach the way me or sax are advocating ??? so you have never heard of boys schools. Now i am not exactly advocating for one sex school like sax is, what I and I believe umar is advocating for is a change in the way boys are taught to a way that is more conducive to their temperament and natural desires. which is something a feminist would oppose because it would be recognizing fundamental gender differences and their results.

Also your argument boils down to this is the way it's been for a long time so we should keep doing it, but how has that shit worked out for men??? especially black men. We are falling behind our women.

Great interview but I feel like I been through alotta examples he spoke on so I knew it already but when I was or currently telling ppl they didn't believe me

The older i get the more and more i've come to the realization the root of blacks problem in this country and other countries stems from financial literacy. A formal education is quite overrated and this is coming from a nigga with three degrees. lol We don't know how to manage money, how to make money, and how to recycle it in our communities. Then we find ourselves living check to check in low paying jobs, having to depend on white lending companies who don't want to lend us shit, etc. Money is the deep down root cause of blacks issues imo. Our parents didn't know shit about finances and in return they didn't teach us shit.

1. Umar Johnson is a school psychologist, nothing more. He went to the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. During his final year he presented his desertion only for such to be denied; he never received his doctorate. He is a school psychologist at the masters degree level, nothing more. Umar Johnson is also not apart of the American Psychological Association, nor the National Association of School Psychologist.

2. He is correct that homosexuality was once labeled a mental disorder according to the DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual); however, what he leaves out to project his bias of homosexuals is that such also prescribed blacks of being intellectually inferior of whites, where it was believed that blacks could not benefit from psychological treatment.

3. He's correct, black people are extremely multicultural. Black people love to date outside their race, they also love to fight for the rights of other people, while never receiving it back.

4. The nature vs. nurture debate is a long steady conversation in psychology. And whether Umar Johnson doesn't like it, their are actually studies that show their is an alcohol gene that can be passed down amongst families. The Nf1 (neurofibromatosis type 1) regulates a signaling pathway that’s linked with alcohol dependence by affecting the production of the neurotransmitter GABA. While an individuals environment plays a role in their behavior an individuals genetic make up is also a contributing factor.

5. While their is an over projection of labeling individual as ADHD their is a different element in the brains of individuals with ADHD and non-ADHD individuals.

95% of what Umar Johnson stated in this interview goes against the code of ethics set forth by the APA. It would be better if he was not as bias.

You sound like an agent.

Socioeconomics pretty much sums up the entire issue.. Financial literacy is only part of the problem.. But you aren't wrong..

Your theory about financial literacy is false a la Black Wall Street, and you're marginalizing how rigged the game really is. If we found a way to make more money than them, the dollar would mysteriously crash and now whatever we lack would become top value. Or they would make what we're doing illegal, taxes, propaganda, claim something to do with terrorism, or just overthrow it with brute force a la Black Wall Street. They're controlling the game in this country, and won't hesitate to cheat or do whatever it takes for them to stay on top.

The ONLY way to make moves is to pursue knowledge of: yourself, your history, your potential, your situation then everything else will fall into place. A coon with long money won't help the community, an uncle tom with deep pockets won't help his people. A selfish business man with a chain of corporations won't spread the wealth and will ignore unity for growth.

Finance is important, but we need to get the mind right first.

I disagree. They can simply give all the coons the money (which is what they're doing now), and nothing will change. Why don't we have schools already in place, similar to what Umar wants to setup? Because the people with money aren't thinking on that level. Because...? Their mind isn't chiseled.

That's why the mind needs to be on point first. Once this step is complete, we can weed out the fakers and agents, and really make moves.

People have to stop using Black wall street getting burned down nearly 100 years ago as an excuse for the Black community not to pursue financial empowerment in 2015. It's scary boogeyman shit and it gives white people way too much credit.
