iono thats pretty unfair, thats like ranking a rapper solely on cadence or breath control when really you should be looking at the complete package no homo

timbaland is one of the few producers who have literally changed the sound of radio, on more than one occasion, in more than one genre... who cares about labels, the nigga makes good beats. period.

Timberland only really contributed to hiphop by producing cross over hits. He has always been pop IMO.

Scratch that shit Timbo got some classic hiphop beats and has worked with everyone.

He said himself he no longer considers himself as hiphop, but he has a legitmate legacy in hiphop.

Pardon me my niggaz, but imo Timbo is one of the most overatted producers in Hiphop. Dude makes top 10 in most peoples list, some even have him in they top 5.

Why is he mentioned in the same sentence as these dudes??

Rza
Marley Marl
Premo
Dre
Kanye
Just
Dilla

Timbo doesnt have a critically acclaimed Hiphop album like "36 Chambers" or "The Sun rises in the East" in his production discography.

School me on this: If Timbo wuz to retire today, what would be his impact in Hiphop????

Keyword: Hiphop.......

imo we should be able to distinguish between Pop and Hiphop when ranking these producers....

How can you say that when Dre produced for Mary J. Blige and Miche'le back in the day
Marley Marl has had a R&B flavored sound from time to time also.
Premo produced for Christina Aguilera so on that note yes, he belongs. He rocked with the likes of everyone from Jay-Z, LL, Missy to Aaliyah and Justin Timberlake. How can you dismiss ? You mean to tell me you wasn't feeling none of his music ?

No. Because he is not a beat maker. Beat makers are like Premo, 9th, Dilla...etc...Timbo is a super producer and can only be compared to likes of Dre, Kanye, Mannie Fresh. Those cats are actual producers, not just someone that makes beats. Timbo is a top 3 super producer ever in hip hop.

Why yall missin my point?

Timbo is talented, i aint disputing that. I respect his work and contributions in Rn B and pop especially his work with aaliyah and missy.

what i'm sayin is that his Hiphop discography pales in comparison to other GOATs

Prove me wrong?

Can he craft a beat like Mathematics,Triumph, Lyrical exercise????????

Smh @ you sayin beats on Liquid swords are average...

RZA's string of production in the mid '90s is arguably one of the greatest runs by any producer.

Kung-Fu flick sound-bites,Live instrumentation, Sped-up vocal samples,Chopped-up samples

Rza is the GOAT of this rap shit. He gave birth to Kanye's style, who the fuck did timbo influence?

ok, I'll give you that. He has made it more prevalent for R&B and Pop singers to blaze beats Hip Hop artists should've used. Maybe he should've thought about rippin' with a emcee only and giving hip hop a 36 Chambers, Mama Said or BE but that's not his lane. Every producer besides Dilla had a prominent point in their career where they was the most sought after and Timbo is no different.

Stop it. Dude might only have classic R&B cuts here and there but dude don't have no classic albums or nothin' so he ain't that great.

Timbo was great for them R&B and club joints because his drums were so hard. That's it.

Speakin' of those super producers you just mentioned:

Dre: The Chronic, 2001, Doggystyle, Efil4Zaggin, Straight Outta Compton etc etc

Kanye: CD, Late Registration, Graduation, MBDTF etc etc

Mannie Fresh: Not too familiar with his catalogue but i know most of the classic cuts he did with Cash Money.

Now what does Timbo have? Hip-Hop wise

Cosign the bolded.

Intelligent post...............

Timbaland is more deserving of a Top 10 spot than a Kanye or Just Blaze. Timbaland changed the sound of Hip Hop on numerous occassions and opened up the door for guys like Swizz, Mannie, Kanye, Just and most of the producers who blew up after '97 to do what they do.

Why does Timbaland deserve a Top 10 spot?

1) He introduced Hip Hop to the double time drum.

2) He introduced Hip Hop to the sampling of Middle Eastern and Indian music.

3) He had laughing babies and crickets on tracks that topped the Top 40. Hip Hop tracks nonetheless.

Does Timbaland have a Hip Hop classic? Missy's Supa Dupa Fly is considered by several critics as an essential album of the '90's. Allmusic.com gave it a perfect score hailing it as the most influential album released by a female rapper and crediting the album with changing the sound of Hip Hop and R&B.

^^^ Besides Dre, The Neptunes, and RZA, and a few others, there aren't many Hip Hop producers that can claim an era.

It's impossible to calculate Timbaland's impact on urban music. Beginning in the mid-'90s, the Virginia producer not only revolutionized how hip-hop and R&B sounded, he also changed how pop audiences view the role of the producer.

Timbaland's influence in nearly every Southern and Midwestern producer, and his sound has been adopted by pop acts ranging from Justin Timberlake to Nelly Furtado. He is among the most respected figures in hip-hop, and in many ways is comparable to legendary pop producers such as Phil Spector.

^^^Rhapsody Music http://www.rhapsody.com/timbaland

Timbaland's style of rejecting samples in favor of a sound layered with a variety of instruments and beats became one of the most distinctive in contemporary hip-hop and r&b. His work with Aaliyah on such classics as 1998's "Are You That Somebody" and 2000's "Try Again" took hip hop in idiosyncratic new directions. Timbaland brought Asian and Middle Eastern influences into his work with Jay-Z ("Big Pimpin'") and Missy Elliott ("Get Ur Freak On")

Most of his pop beats could have easily been hip hop beats if somebody rapped on them instead of sang on them. That's hardly his fault. They're still hot beats.
