It's that's got damn gangster rap music bruhs ....it's ruing little johnnies all over this great country ...you know?

1) They're white. They don't usually identity with it so deeply that it comes to mold their self-identity.

2) They usually don't live in disadvantaged communities. That's factor too.

That said, I am sure there have been white dudes who did illegal shit at least partly because of hip hop. They are just not affected nearly as much.

ohhhhhhhhhh woah woah woah ... nooooowwww theres qualifiers to the proclamation huh?

i knew lots of white kids in HS that sold drugs, got drunk, dropped out of school, frequented prison/juvie and more. They were the kids that listened to rap music, caught feelings when you said Tupac is overrated, wore baggy clothes, etc.

Of course it does. Trust me, I've seen suburban neighborhoods before and after hip hop became national and these black suburban kids magically became Gangsta's overnight lol. Two parent households, big house, nice education but the media tells them that in order to be black they need to act like these characters they see on tv. It doesn't help that these rappers are very charismatic with the negativity that they're perpetuating. Media in general is very influential, we're all influenced by culture that started from the media, so why would hip hop be exempt?

The media is the reason why people feel nervous sitting next to Arabs on the plane, it's the reason why the KKK's membership increased in the 1930's after they made that propaganda movie about black men raping white women, it's the reason why people are slowly becoming more accepting of all that gay stuff and it's slowly becoming more normalized, it's why the beauty standards shift, it's why women in America base their ideal partner off of a fantasy they repeatedly show in movies, it's why we went through that phase where every black dude wanted to be a rapper around, we saw Kanye, Pharrel and Timbaland in the front of the videos with equipment and then everybody wanted to be a best maker......basically the media is a great tool for socialization and shaping perspectives.....so why wouldn't that apply to hip hop or gangsta rap?

This whole thread make me think about the beginning of Thuggish Ruggish Bone were Farrakhan says

We're not against rap

We're not against rappers

But we are against those thugs (thugs thugs)

But on the real tho if you gone spit that street shit i feel you should always cover that other side of the game

To many rappers today paint a picture like its all sweet out here and glamorize that shit without talking about the downfalls too. I respect the brother the most who talks about the ills of the game that come along with the success. It definitley aint wrong to talk about thins that we live, see,or do but we need more balance! Regardles of what anybody say Hip Hop Gangsta Rap watever, its not only a mirror of what we see within our communities but it perpetuates & contributes to our culture as well, for good or bad.

I don't think the rap has the negative influence, but listened to and viewed by young and impressionable minds can definitely be a problem. They just don't seem to have the thought process to know this is entertainment, and leave it as just that. Don't mimic it.

Yes. People are influenced by what they see and hear promoted on TV and music. That's why they charge millions for a 30 second ad in the Super Bowl. For the last 20 years, hip hop has been a commercial for negativity and you can see the effects in the street.
