Does Gangsta Rap Have A Negative Effect On The Youth?

It obviously can.

I haven't seen any solid proof of widespread negative effects though. Any credible studies on this?

Stuff that isn't even "gangsta" can have a negative effect on kids depending on your P.O.V.

no.... You older than us and you should know that it doesn't. There were youth gangs before rap in the 60's & 70's.

There was cancer before they invented cigarettes. Does that mean that smoking cigarettes couldn't possibly contribute to cancer?

LMAO @ muthafuckas saying gangsta rap doesn't have an effect on youth. Look at all these chicago rappers that are under 21 years agold merking each other left & right. These niggaz are literally killing each other because of diss songs, twitter, and instagram.

It does but hell, R&B does now as well. Instead of pushing love songs, they would rather push songs like can't raise no man and all this drama R&B. This is why people think it's ok to have these huge arguments only to turn around and have makeup sex and try to forget about what happened. It's either some type of I hate him/her song or a song about sex. Back to gangsta rap, I mean it has negative effects but kids are weak now anyway.

At the end of the day its all ENTERTAINMENT. Did cats trip when Joe Pesci was "acting like a gangster" in Goodfellaz? Did cats really think Al Pacino was putting his face in a mountain of blow and letting off rounds with no fucks? How many thought Brando was a real Don in Godfather? Mad cats been exposed I.e. Ross. They just tryna blame gangsta rap as why the youth is throwed off

Difference is Pesci, Pacino, and Brando weren't doing interviews still in character. They didn't want you to believe they were those characters in real life. Ross didn't even admit he was a CO at first and even to this day he wants cats to believe he was/is some major player in the drug game.

If people want to pull the "it's all entertainment" then pull back the curtain and let's see the cast and crew.

Very few of these actors are shot or imprisoned

You don't see Pesci in and out of prison on drug charges or Gandolfini getting shot in a drive by

Then thats not the music is it then.thats the rappers personal life

What about the people who look to rappers as a way to create music, gain and create enployment,

These rappers are paid entertainers.if u choose to be an idiot thats your problem.

The music does something. There wasn't real gangs in some areas until it was spread on music and film. A movie you watch a few times but but music can be listened to everyday becoming your heartbeat. Some of these fatherless dudes hear a man say killing and dealing is how he handled adversity he might try it. Not to mention dudes with 4-5 babymamas because everyone is just banging and you are lame if you not. Its a lot that hoes into it

You can put something out there and if there is an audience for it people will gravitate to it.

Rap doesn't make anyone do anything but it does have an audience and parts of that audience are already susceptible to doing these things the music talks about.

It's also an "art imitates life" (or vice versa) argument. Rap is just like gangster movies, while some gangster flicks are based on true stories (Casino, Goodfellas, Donnie Brasco), some are made up (Scarface, The Godfather) and it's difficult to tell the difference at times but the fact that both sides exist is because there is a market for those kinds of stories and all of it is exaggerated for entertainment purposes.

Science fiction attracts nerds it doesn't cause nerds. And yeah some nerds go overboard dressing and talking like the characters they read about or saw on TV but they aren't forced, compelled or told to do any of that, they do it because they want to.

Oh.... so yall believe in brainwashing in every other facet of life but not in hip hop or rap?

Do you all know how stupid you are about to sound?

You all see examples of it day in and day out, but ignore it when its something near and dear to your heart?

How that work?

Followers are always going to look for something/someone to follow. Unfortunately at times it seems like there are more followers than leaders in this world.

Difference is SiFi influenced some of the technology we have now and rap is the music of the street gang

So what were street gangs listening to before? There weren't any?

Shit the biggest gangsta rap acts in the world aren't even authentic but cats playing characters.

When people get paid millions of dollars to brag about being the dregs of society, of course it will have a negative impact on impressionable minds

Gangs were not widespread across the country. They were in areas but now they are everywhere. Is this because of word of mouth. Ghetto Dope gave instructions but crack eas almost over by then. As I stated before its more than just music but the music is influential

1) They're white. They don't usually identity with it so deeply that it comes to mold their self-identity.

2) They usually don't live in disadvantaged communities. That's factor too.

That said, I am sure there have been white dudes who did illegal shit at least partly because of hip hop. They are just not affected nearly as much.
