Does a rap artist voice matters???

i try not to let it but sometimes it does, like years ago i hated on boosie, but when zoom dropped i thought it was a cool lil banger then i listened to his other stuff and the subject matter was too powerful, but at the same time, i wont even listen to artists like dizzie rascal, cant tolerate that accent

Unique voices takes some getting used to, some people can get used to it and some can't.

I got used to Freeway & Boosie's voices but I can't fuck with B-Real however.

I think the voice needs to fit the content in order for it to be at its most effective.

Nas rarely switches his cadence, so I can see why his voice might sound boring after a while. In fact, that's part of the major criticisms he gets as an emcee: his overall lack of charisma. Some critics have tried to point that out about him (e.g. Jon Caramanica recently called him a humorless "clear-eyed storyteller" and "sober motherfucker"). But I think that can be a little misleading. Mic presence isn't just about the cadence you have or how much emotion you display; for Nas and so many other artists, mic presence has always been about connecting with your audience, and having yourself heard by listeners. And when it comes to that, rhyming and subject matter is how Nas reaches his fans. He'll change his voice when he feels it helps (e.g. One Mic, Seuko's Story, Undying Love, and Who Killed It) but for the most part, his primary concern as an artists has always been with keeping his lyrical form, and displaying his songwriting skills. That's why he can excel as a storyteller and commentator, without having to do much with his voice.

I do believe Nas is better creativity and lyrically but not artistry wise, imo.

????? How can you better lyrically and creatively, and be the worse artist? lol

They are 2 different things. Your writing abilities and your ability to hear and match tonality with music are 2 different talents. There are lyricists scattered all throughout hip-hop that can't pick beats or match tones with good beats when they get them. The tone in which you rap your verses is just as important to completing the composition we all hear as the final product of music.

fair enough....so what does that mean in this case? Nas might be the better writer, but Kendrick knows how make better music?

Matters to an extent. But if you really spitting then I can look past it. That's why I could never get in to Lil Boosie, niggas would be really offended when I say that nigga trash. I respect how he keeps it "real" and not afraid to rap about whatever is on his mind. But I can't listen to a whole album.
