The media ain't concerned with what they let the government get away with. They ain't about being watchdogs. The media is concerned with juicy stories that amount to good ratings. So yeah, they'd cover it, but instead of discussing the raw facts about what's being done, they'd have 2 guests come on to debate the topic and pull out as many strawmen and red herrings as possible, then the host would rap it up by saying "Thank you both for joining us, this will continue to be a controversial issue, and we'll continue to bring you both sides of the argument."
