I think cube and pac are beast on the mic...but IMO Pac has better material...plain and simple.....not real complicated for my ears.......they both had social and political as well as gangster and party songs so I put em both in the same emcee catagory....But Cube doesn't have SO MANY TEARS, STRAIGHT BALLIN, LIFE GOES ON, DEAR MAMMA, etc on his resume...and I thnk Cube has at least two classic albums, but PAC was bringng heat non-stop...this ain't from no PAC stan but a HUGE Rakim fan

Fair and good points.

1. If it's strictly rapping there are other WC rappers out there who are better than Cube and I'm talking beyond the 90's, all across the board; lyrics, flow, etc. U might just not be up on all thats West Coast. I'm from LA and prefer East Coast NY shit most the time tho.

His production skills add to the overall impact of his songs. Songs which appear on his rap albums and attribute to his overall greatness as a rapper. Maybe if Quik didn't rap on his own production so much I wouldn't reference it at all and my opinion of him might be different because as we all know u can be great rapper, but with the wrong production no one gives a fuck i.e. Canibus.

2.Cube has actually had a lot of longevity in the game, moreso than alot of other rappers, he just transitioned into Hollywood Movies, no problem with that. He ain't relevant in Hiphop no more tho unless u wanna talk about his classics.

Quik is way more relevant in the streets, Believe Dat.

The rapping and the production that goes along with his songs are way more representative of the West Coast and what we regard as Classic and real West Coast Music.

IDK much about Quik either slept on him for a bit and still haven't peeped all of his music, good amount tho.

LOL idk about Eight getting the best of him tho.

3.I'm not trying to provide evidence. His body of work speaks for itself. They're two different artists tho and the music aint the same considering its West Coast.

Equally fair and good points. Hm, I need to get up on Quik shit asap.

quik still hangs around the tree top's. cube doesn't even venture into south central let alone compton.

I heard that south central (or "south los angelos", if you will) is being taken over by mexican immigrants/surenos who are steadily pushing out blacks with racism so fierce that it would make the original KKK proud. so i doubt that cube would get a grand homecoming anyway.

Yeah!! I vote CUBE too. NWA imploded after he left!!

with Cube in the group he was the conscious of the group. and they were more political with songs like FUCK THE POLICE they were almost leaning torwards a more Public Enemy type sound. It only made sense will he left His first album was produced by PE's House production team the Bomb Squad.

post CUBE it was Eazy E who was the conscious of the group and there material turned torwards making songs about Killing Hookers and whatever crazy fantasy Eazy could dream up, but it still sounded dope because you got Dre doing the beats its gonna be dope!!

Cube was in the Zone as an artist from 1987-93. Hes living off his name and making movies, good business man. I dont think hes been that ni99a in rap for a long time, he had his run but man what a hell of run it was! man hes gotten away with a lot because hes CUBE from the Nigga you love to hate to starring in Disney style movies coaching a girl playing QB for her school. only in America!

I think he is... I posted this in another thread about Cube.....

Ice Cube has dropped or been a part of these classic records... "Back-to-Back-to-Back...".

1.Straight outta Compton 1988 - NWA group member... CLASSIC!

2.Amerikkka's Most Wanted 1990 - solo... CLASSIC!

3.Kill AT Will 1990 - solo... This EP included the classic songs... "Jacking for Beats", "The Product" and "Dead Homies". Those three song right there were better than other niggas whole albums. lol... CLASSIC!

4.Death Certificate 1991- solo... which contains "No Vaseline" the best diss record ever IMO.... CLASSIC!

And if you really want to get picky with this shit... he helped write Eazy E's first album "Eazy Duz it"-1988... which is another Classic Album. That makes it what... 5 releases "Back-to-Back-to-Back-to-Back...." that he helped write or released as a solo artist. DAMN!!!!

I can't think of any other rap artist who has dropped this much Dope shit... "Back-to-Back-to-Back...".

Years later(1996) he dropped the album "Bow Down" with West Side Connection.... another Classic!!!! Damn!

Let's not forget Ice Cube wrote this classic back in 1987... this song pretty started the whole N.W.A/Ruthless string of hits.

Boyz n the Hood

I think I read up on it, and saw it on gangland too. It's on netflix on demand if you got it, the florencia 13 episode. Yeah, the media may be exaggerating though. But here's what's being said on wikipedia for instance:

"Despite some improvements in the local economy, South Los Angeles remains known for its notorious gangs.[3] The tension between black and Latino gangs has led to increased racially-motivated gang violence since the early 1990s. This is in addition to latino on latino, and black on black gang violence. The percentage of African American residents in South Los Angeles is about half of what it was in 1990. Latin American (e.g., Mexican, Guatemalan, Honduran, Salvadoran, etc.) immigrants became the majority as in many of the older sections of Los Angeles. African Americans are the largest ethnic group in the southwestern portion of South Los Angeles. Violent crime in the southwestern portion, although still high, has been decreasing since 1992. In recent years, there has been an influx of white and Asian families moving in some communities of South Los Angeles due to gentrification and revitalization, particularly around the West Adams and Jefferson Park districts."

"By the end of the 1980s, South Los Angeles had an increasing amount of Hispanics and Latinos, but it was not until the 1990s when Hispanic immigrants from Central America began arriving in substantial numbers to buy or rent apartments and houses, some of which were vacated by African American renters. The region's black population halved between 1990 and 2010.[citation needed]

In the 2000 census, the designate area of South Los Angeles had a population of 520,461. Roughly 55% of the residents were Hispanic or Latino, while 41% were African American[citation needed]. A large percentage of small stores and shops are owned by Asian American immigrants, especially Koreans and Indians. Filipinos have also had a visible presence in the area and Native Americans are a sizable percentage of apartment rental tenants.[citation needed]"

Well, I guess the southwestern part of South central is predominantly black but still...

oh ok. the way the media put it, it just seemed pretty bad. I guess it was sensationalized. yeah that seems right. after all, even though gangs get talked about a lot, i think they only represent a very small percentage of a given population so that makes sense.

Well the Mexicans have been here....for a while. Most mexican immigrants ain't putting in no real work. It's the children of the immigrants for the most part and such things happen in places like South Central LA where gang culture is bred. Them Central American Immigrants is crazy. MS don't play.

Surenos control their portions of LA(Mainly East Los, SGV, and some other shit)and exert power through their dominance in the illegal drug trade, Thanks to help from the Mexican Mafia.

They're not overrunning South Central, the mix has been occurred. South Central is a ghetto where LA likes to keep us minorities, lot of people don't even travel outside the hood much. In fact a lot of Black people have moved out the hood to places like Palmdale, Lancaster, Victorville, so South Central seems a lil less Black so to speak but for the most part it's the same.

Some Surenos are clearly racist tho and are not too fond of Blacks, its not an all out race war tho. Latinos have lived amongst Blacks for a cool minute in South LA. Most of the time it's a gang or drug beef. Sometimes kids like to play Gangsta and get hurt, too many young ones false flagging and get caught slipping for it. It's LA life, u get used to it.
