They run the ball almost as much as they throw it. Brees averages 12 yards per completion which isnt anything special.(He's 9th in YPC)

But he also broke the NFL record from percentage of completions (70.66). That IS kinda special.

That had nothing to do with what the thread starter brought up.

But when you complete passes as much as he does @ the rate of 12 YPC it adds up. That's why they are able to move down the field so fast. Brees is really good at reading defenses at the line too. So when he sees what you doing he already knows where the wholes are. A lot of those big plays that go for 20 yds are more are about timing, accuracy and having good receivers that can go up and get the ball. Cuz those back shoulder throws he does to Colston and Meachem are nasty. They be dead on.

1. Still, the thread starter was referring to single plays and I was touching on that.

2. A huge chunk of those big plays come off play action. Im not sure the exact stat, but the Saints have to be among the highest in the league off the play action.

Yeah Sean Peyton come up with some really good play action plays. I think it works so well because they have too many receivers to account for so there is always someone open and its always at least 20yds up the field. I noticed that they like to hit them the most in the beginning of games to get up early. But a balanced running game has helped the PA plays as well.
