This is true... but before the labels seen it as a promotional tool. So if you do an Half Ass video then they prolly feel they were not going to get their money back. But when Diddy is Paying 1 mil on a Video its definetly for promotion and album sales. But there's not real outlet for Music videos; MTV dont play videos, 106 and Park is only 10 videos, Vh1..... So i guess the budgets got smaller and smaller for video's which makes sense Business wise... Low Record Sales, No real way to get the Video seen unless somebody looks it up why invest all this money on it?

there was an article on mtv's website around the time Drake's Find Your Love video about this very thread topic and how some artist are thankful for youtube and the popularity of watching videos on the internet because now it allows them to make longer videos and videos that have more to do with the actual song or just more creative than the basic shit we've seen the past decade or so...it mentions some shit also artists being allowed to make their videos a certain time limit on tv and that's not really enough time to tell a good story the way the more creative artists would do it...we've all seen the terrible edited versions/shortened versions of videos that have much better longer 7 minute or so versions...

you can have wayne, ross, and snoop all in the same song.... and the video will be black and white... on a white soundstage with two rented cars (models a year out of date).... and the rappers will just look at the camera head-bobbing while the other guy spits

Yea but ppl dont like long ass video's even if it does have a "Story". Ppl just dont have the attention span for it. Just like ppl feel rap songs shouldnt be longer than 4 minutes. It's going to get to a point where Music Video's are going to be a novelty in the Music industry and only the A List Artist are gonna do them as a "Treat" and not out of a required task....
