Physically yes.

Mentally fuck no.

Meaning they hit puberty first ? I even question that because males don't have the same body changes to go through.

I agree on the mental part.

Yes that's why older men usually get married to younger women. You rarely see older women marry younger men.

Remember being told this when you were growing up ?

I do. And I always challenged that shit - refusing to accept being inferior to any other human.

I still think this is bullshit.

What y'all think now that you've had some life experience - is this shit true ? Why/why not ?

I dont understand how being immature is being inferior.

I could think of a few other reasons for that -

Besides younger women being more physically attractive, older men most likely have more money.

I mean think about it Hugh Heffner ain't fuckin' wit' mature bitches....

And Anna Nicole probably wasn't lookin' for her intellectual equal.

(Just sayin)

So men marry a younger women based on her body, yet men these men are still the mature ones...oh ok, I get it now. Men are totally more mature than women.

Anna Nicole Smith wanted $$, last time I check that's one of the things that most ppl want, regardless of their maturity level.

They mature at the same rate

But social constructs give the illusion that one matures faster than the other

I disagree haute. Girls have been maturing physically earlier and earlier in the past 30-40 years and boys have been on the opposite path. They did a huge study which found that environmental pseudo-estrogen compounds, most found in plastics that leech into the water supply have been retarding male physical development and speeding up the point at which a woman first menstruates.

A quick google shows that some studies find that teen girls are indeed smarter than boys their age:

"In fact, neuro-imaging shows that, early on, the typical teen girl has a stronger connection between the areas of the brain that control impulse -- the amygdala -- and judgment -- the prefrontal cortex.

It may not be until late adolescence or their early 20s that boys' brains catch up to their girl peers.

"To know that they're smarter than us by two years -- it's a gap, it really is," said John Bessolo, one of the students in Dr. Brizendine's high school group. "They are the superior beings of the brain." "

Which might explain the lack of men completing college compared to women.

Link???

The whole plastic thing has been linked to cancer at most, and even that claim has been deemed sketchy

The ways in which we define 'maturity', like impulse control, are defined only in the view of how we decide certain roles for genders

Of course women seem less impulsive when you tell them from birth they are not allowed to be impulsive

How would you expect anything different???

Bingo.

Used to kill me when I'd hear people insist that a girl is a woman at 18, but a boy isn't a man until he's 21. I used to be like, " Are you fuckin' STUPID??"

I wasn't referring to plastics only, as there are a wide range of EE's out there.

Here's the link:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2721670/?tool=pmcentrez

Here's the relavant section to which I referred:

Pubertal
In another more recent example of unintended effects of EDCs in humans, estrogen-containing shampoos (Tiwary, 1998) and skin oils (Henley et al., 2007) were shown to be causative factors for pseudoprecocious puberty in girls and gynecomastia in boys (Felner and White, 2000). Some of the shampoos, for example, contained up to 4 mg of estradiol per 100 g. Others contained up to 2 g of the much less potent estriol per 100 g (Tiwary, 1998).
Virilization in young children as young as 17 months of age is uncommon and is produced by androgens (Kunz et al., 2004), which may be from endogenous or exogenous sources. Recently, the increased availability and use of commercial androgen products for cutaneous application has increased the risk of virilization in children through skin contact and passive absorption.

if i was going by my maturity level, i'd say yes. but i think maturity has more to do with your life experiences than your gender, so i'd say that no, girls don't mature quicker emotionally.

they mature faster physically for sure tho

I guess defining "mature" is step 1 is this discussion. That term is so subjective.

not this again!;3097866 said:

Yep that's the shit they used to say. I'm like seriously ? Define this "man/women" shit you speak of because the legal age isn't different for men vs women.

I think the idea of "maturity" is too different to describe both men and women because we don't go through the same physical changes.
