i care more about the song writing, seeing people like nas not really freestyle like that and still be recognized as the best made me care even less about it, ion freestyle well and ion really practice like that, but i wanna get better just to show i can every once in a while

As an MC Myself most of my creativity stems from freestyling, The ability to create rhymes off the dome is something sought for by any true a&r or talent scout, shows your quick in the mind, something today's society is missing. although most cats remember their freestyles for later uses. Any MC in a battle should freestyle only.As far as songs go,I freestyle verses that have the same concept and make into a song, unlike a song that has no theme and just sounds like a bunch of stuff put together like Lil wayne's music as of late. Bottom Line Freestyling is a sacred art of MCing

I find myself in a mental circle with this one. On one hand - No, a rapper's finished product is the most important thing (no body cares about Alex Haley's brainstorms, but Roots was some deep shit).

But on the other hand- freestying , as said earlier in the thread, is a very real part of hip hop and i wish i heard more of it because it is hip hop in it's purest form. I mean, philosophy would be a lot more stale if there were never any live impromptu debates and everyone just wrote books/articles containing their arguments and counter-arguments

Show & prove.... U ain't gotta be the best but I think every emcee should have the capability to go off the top on any subject matter or topic given, no of that pre -written memorized bullshit or pullin out notes & blackberrys in the middle of the cypher.....

Ole cliff notes ass niggas

Niggas can't even spit WRITTEN rhymes about any topic or subject matter...how in the hell can you expect rappers to be able to come off the top of their head about literally any and everything lol

Even for the best Freestyler they havebtheir off days and ppl aren't understanding anymore so why risk losing a potential fan tryin to "Freestyle" when u can let ppl hear ur best stuff...

IMO freeatyling is overrated because ppl will let a wack verse slid because its "off the dome"

Somebody posted a Curren$y over Wayne's Tha Block Is Hot beat freestyle the other day, I fuck with Spitta's music but that shit was terrible...he was just rambling

yea you lose points. If you a rapper you should be able to drop a few bars off the top. doens't have to be all that great and complicated just show the ability

yes. and thats why Banks >>>> everyone.

That's clearly a written though...he's not rapping off the top of his head...he even editing out the cuss words before he says them...if you really going off the top of your head you're not going to have time to think "let me bleep out this fuck for the radio"

I listen to most of my music in the vehicle (I live in the South). Sometimes I watch videos and/or listen at home or out in a social setting. Do yall listen to freestyles when doing what you do? How does that work, is it to music or not? Some of the songs I listen to may be "freestyles" (whatever that means) but I dont separate it. I either feel like listening to whatever it is or dont. I advise against listenin to anything you dont want to. It'll save you fom unneeded foolishness.
