Adam Weishaupt, the founder of the Bavarian Illuminati (the original Illuminati) joined the Masons in 1777

The original Illuminati were modeled on the Jesuits, but stictly opposed the view of the Jesuits. The Illuminati were more political than Masonic or Rosicrucian groups as they declared to abolish monarchies, abolish the clergy, abolish private ownership, and and set up a utopian state. In order to make this happened, they attempted to spread themselves through Masonic Lodges. Adam Weishaupt (the founder) joined the freemasons to begin this infiltration of the Masonic Lodges. Being too revolutionary, they were both banned from Bavaria, Germany. A lot of people now believe that this led the remainding Illuminati members to go underground and still run things even to this day.

In reality, the Illuminati never garnered enough power to do anything really big. At best they had small ties in stirring the French Revolution, but that's it. As for these other global elites today, I am right with the rest in being against them 100%, but we are not dealing with the Illuminati here.
