To understand the root, people should read up on the treaty of Ryswick and how it shaped the mindset in the views of Dominicans and Haitians.

everyday words, "Alo"- hello, "Wi"-yes, "Mesi"-thank you, "Merite"-you're welcome, etc. Its good to know a little of your culture, to pass on to your kids. If you speak English fluently, it should be easy, as the English language is the most difficult imo...Yeah, read up on the Ryswick Treaty of 1697, the source of the animosity can be traced directly back to the Europeans and their tactics of division of the cultures.

do you brothers consider yourselves to be Afro Latino (because the majority of your ethnic group speaks the Romance French with west African dialect,) or do you consider yourselves to be West Indian (even though they speak Germanic English & Dutch with a west African dialect.)

I am no Latino......I'm a proud BLACK MAN.....period. I have no problem being considered African-American as well, as my ancestors come from the motherland. Every single Haitian person I've ever met considers themself Black as well. That goes for my mother, grandmother and everyone else on the Haitian side of my family.

I should add though that my father was born in Panama, but he's just as Black as I am. His parents themselves come from Jamaica.....they came to Panama to help build the Panama Canal.

I only asked because Afro Latinos DO see themselves as being black. I guess it's just different with black French speakers in contrast to black Spanish speakers, that's all.

Afro Latinos are proud of being from Africa too. hence the name. and they celebrate many aspects of central & west African culture, they just speak Portuguese & Spanish, that's all.

I consider myself african period. My mother was Afro Cuban, my african roots outweigh everything else. I agree with KingBlaze, most Haitians define themselves as black, however there are Haitians that for some reason deny their heritage and look down on speaking Kreyol and favor the French dialect over it.

As for Louisiana Creoles, they are somewhat different from Haitian Kreyol. Their dialect is a result of African American slaves, and French Colonial slaveowners..

Done want to be brief because there is alot more to it, but i gotta get out of here, Im headed to Naples with the family. I may post more when i get back in.

dont be ashamed man, lol. My mother was half Cuban, and my spanish is just ok. Thats something I need to learn more myself, life takes precedence over all of these things..As long as i can communicate at all im ok, lol..
