Ive never been a fan of DLS. Im not really into all that "peace and love" hippie-hop. I'm always evolving tho so this might help me get more hip. I'd rather listen to this than most other shit anyway

I remember De La Soul Is Dead came out the same summer as Niggaz4life (1991). As much as I wanted to like De La Soul Is Dead, the theme was just corny.

By the end of the summer I was bumping Always Into Something, Find Em, Fuck Em And Flee and The Days Of Wayback.

De La Soul is cool in small doses but the concept of 'gangsta rap' pretty much ended their career. I don't think I've ever seen any girls jamming to De La Soul at a nightclub. Now that I think about it, I don't think I've ever seen anybody jamming to De La Soul at a nightclub. Buddy was dope though.

Bruh, I don't mind you telling of how YOU felt at the time...... but please stop trying to make YOUR personal opinion the general consensus

You must forget about the wide variety of hip-hop that was out at the time ...... early 90's, pretty much everybody was eating .

Wasn't just gangsta rap that year that was beating up the streets

De La Soul Is Dead got 5 mics in the source and was well received on the charts, radio, and in the streets

Have you ever heard De La Soul in a club?

I have heard "Baby Phat" & "Oooh" in a club b4...

I'll check for it. I never heard and listened to an entire album. I just heard and the saw the videos that were played on tv.

Who cares if they weren't played in the club.

I care. I like feel good music that sounds good on the radio, in the club and at a cookout. If you don't care about those things then we can just agree to disagree.

But I've always felt that this message board was here so people can share their opinions. In my opinion, the whole Native Tounges/Bohemian vibe got overshadowed by Death Row and later Bad Boy...and then Jay Z and DMX.

Even Jay Z said "If skills sold I'd be Talib Kweli...but I sold 5 mil ain't been rhyming like Common Sense". I think his point, as well as mine is that that whole Native Tounge/Bohemian vibe doesn't sell and I agree with him.

Having said that, Common, Mos Def and Talib Kweli had a few songs I liked. And I used to be a huge Tribe Called Quest fan. But I always thought Tribe >>> De La Soul.

For you that whole vibe was being overshadowed by Death Row and others. The reasons why it became that way can be left up to debate. But for other people they were still putting out hits.

I'm sure if i was 80 and therefore going to clubs age when this De La was in their prime i would have heard Me Myself and I, Buddy, Saturdays, Let me in, Keepin the Faith, Potholes on my Lawn and many other songs in the club.

Not that it matters but who the fuck is playing NWA in "the club"?

Yeah that's what i thought.

@5grand , dude, you be contradicting your own argument ..... this dude would rather hear NWA at a club or BBQ over De La?

I have no problem with what you do or dont like but to come to a conclusion based on what else is out at the time is imo nonsense

I find it weird that you came up thru the 80's & 90's plus Dj 'd and you don't at least give joint a fair listen before you dismiss them

Anyway, carry on .....
