This is a really really good album. Production is immaculate, and he's talmbout something on here. AK, August, Black Fist, and My Uzi are my standouts. Can't put this ahead of MTA 1, but it's up in the ranks. Once again, Banner has never dropped a dud or bad album.
Only thing I was missing was those country beats. Cleopatra Jones was close.

If there is a single on this album, then I'd think it would be that Judy Blare junt. A clear attempt at a crossover track, but I ain't mad at it
This is best album I heard this year in Hip Hop period so far.. David Banner maybe the most important voice in Hip Hop as a rap veteran with no political ties. The God Box can Get play from the nightclubs to the church with a message in each song. God Box is 10 out of 10 it's a masterpiece. The song Elvis is my favorite song. #MumbleRapisDead

I dunno man. I think he overrsold it with all the "One of the greatest hip hop albums of all time" proclamations. I actually believed the hype.
His mixtape "Before The Box" was jammin like a muhfucka. Raw. Aggressive. Bang-in-the-car beats. I played that shit like 3 weeks straight.
So I figured if those mixtape tracks were outtakes from the actual album, this muthafucka has a for-sure game changer he's cookin up.
After two full listens yesterday I was underwhelmed.
Ceelo and Black Thought came through and killed their features. But that was to be expected. I'm used to Banner being washed by collabs on his own tracks. (No diss - he's still talented.)
Also the spoken word by Big Rube was a highlight. Overall though, I was kinda let down.
I'ma give it some play today to see if my thoughts change at all. Just wanted to drop some first-day impressions.

I respect Banner but he is super meh when it comes to making good music
