I also think we should segregate and build our own communities and towns, but the question I ask is, how would the schooling work? Obviously our kids will still need diplomas, so how would we get the govt to fund our schools, or is there another approach?

You have many ways of funding schools, private schools with tuition are a favorite among the bourgeois. Money going directly to the school is always more efficient than sending it through a bureaucracy but not many folks can afford that.
Maybe taking donations like a non-profit or accepting donation through various foundations could work.

I actually recently did some thinking about how we have to suffer a bit (voluntarily) with the future in mind in order to work our way from under the oppressive white supremacist system. David articulated that point in a great way when he spoke on the "benefits" (which are relative crumbs) that ppl reap in exchange for supporting and/or passively accepting a white supremacist system.
So many Jewels and interesting ideas in this convo.

Qtip and them niggas don't be knowing everything. The only true power you gonna ever have is in the control of your own body G. That is the #1 reason why niggas is stuck in them cyclones in the hood, doing the same crap over and over. lack discipline. It's not because we forgot we had ancestors in Egypt.
