– Consequence dropped by Power 106 this week and discussed his role as a ghostwriter in the rap industry.

While he considers it taboo to “out” who he’s written for, he does reveal he had a hand in writing the chorus on Jay-Z’s 2003 The Black Album cut “Encore.”

“One record, in particular, I was happy about to be a part of was Jay-Z’s ‘Encore,'” Cons says. “When me and Kanye kinda was on the phone and we actually kinda came up with the chorus back and forth.”

Since he’s not credited on the project, this technically makes Consequence a ghostwriter for the catchy Jay-Z hit. A fact that proves that even the most highly acclaimed MCs sometimes get a little written help to make their music.

As a longtime collaborator of Ye, who was in the studio while The Life of Pablo was being recorded, he gave his input on Meek Mill attempting to discredit Drake by outing the identity of his alleged ghostwriter, Quentin Miller.

Ghostwriting has become a highly discussed hot topic since the reveal. Hip Hop heads have been mulling over whether or not an artist has “help” writing his raps matters or not. It should be understood that your favorite rapper doesn’t write all of his rhymes.

“It’s a little venomous to out somebody’s [ghostwriter],” the 39-year-old rapper says. “Especially if you were paid, compensated and you did get your credit and publishing it’s kind of like that’s it. That’s just the closed deal. It’s a closed book.”

So.... he kinda wrote a hook

Not any actual bars

A Hook

That he may or may not have wrote

Oh

Lol I see what's going on. But anyway writing a chorus is not the same as writing a verse for somebody. Because in rap the chorus is simply just the break between the verses.

Nigga said kinda on the phone how you kinda on the phone either you on the phone or not.... Con need to just cut it out..... Ye gets credit as a writer so saying he was kinda talking to Ye and kinda came up with it in a back and forth conversation probably means Ye asked his opinion and he said yea it's dope and that was it....he need to cut the shenanigans

Nothing newsworthy here, this common, hell it's not even considered ghostwriting, con helped ye make a hook, thats all he had to say

If u ask spitters more than likely they gon say "yea Ive had hook help but my 16's? All me b"

Fade to Black showed Ye come to the studio with the concept for Encore. It actually shows him spit some bars to the Lucifer beat that Jay ended up using on the track.

Having a ghostwriter is only a bad thing if you claim to be a lyricist and have written it yourself.

I don't see a problem with getting help with a Hook.

When did Con and GOOD get back on good terms?

Last I heard, they fell out. Didn't know he was in the lab with Ye and Cyhi creating TLOP
