Nah he doesn't know, why would he? there was no reason for him to suspect this, as far as he knows, him and his wife had a baby like in any normal marriage. and yeah, leaving a letter is cowardly and fake in it's own right because your friend would come to you devastated, and you would know in the back of your mind that you are the one who betrayed their trust. In your scenario, no one is raising a kid they think is theres. Teh chick he got pregnant would know its his, and that she is pregnant.
