I personally can't call Common a coon or sellout on this, he been on that peace and love shit. But he got the principle of the matter fucked up. WE shouldn't extend the hand, we're not the instigators in this. This is THEIR system, THEY create the problems... we just merely react to them. If he said THEY should extend a hand in love, I'd completely agree. It's not that simple though, there's a whole generation of Blacks and whites that need to shake off the anger and ignorance before we can even think about building on peace.

Main response is what some of y'all already stated: Blacks have been extending hands from:
1. literally extending hands,
2 to working for them,
3sending our best to their schools,
4letting them win at the apollo on performances we know sucked,
5 relaxing/perming our hair
6 to dying in wars that have nothing to do with us,
7to moving into their neighborhoods
VS
1when they don't move in to ours,
2 they don't die in the thousands for black issues (don't say civil war),
3they won't go to school at your schools,
4 they won't even DARE speak on making amends for the injustices done from the time we arrived to 1985 that were in law against us or all the benefits that they received due from us,
5 the list goes on as far as how blacks have extended more than enough to whites without receiving NOTHING-absolutely nothing in return from the majority of whites around the world.
One thing I hate is how people like Common say "we" have to come together on "both sides to admit what we have done to each other." We ain't never done nothing as a black race of people collectively against whites for being white. This debate is one sided. Only one people did something to the other.
Defending yourself from being killed for no reason is NOT an OFFENSE.
I'm through coming together. We tried that. It's done, been done, it will not be repeated. I don't have a problem with whites who are not racist, but coming together on an issue that has not and does not effect them directly for mutual benefit and understanding is futile
