What are some common phrases we say that make no sense?

1. You want your cake and eat it too.

Isn't that the only reason I got the cake?

2. Fight fire with fire.

I dare anyone to test that theory.

3. You catch more flies with honey than vinegar.

Who's out here catchin flies?

What phrases make no sense to you?

I may be late, but every single one of those makes literal sense as well as figurative.

1) The saying is actually "You can't have your cake and eat it too." Which is true. If you eat it, you will no longer have the cake. So both of those things can't be true at the same time.

2) Firefighters fight fires with fire all the time. It's a common tactic. You use a controlled fire to destroy the potential fuel in the perimeter around a big fire. When that fire progresses to that perimeter, it dies out because there is nothing to feed it.

3) Honey attracts flies and it's sticky and can be used to trap them. Basically it can be used to make a homemade flycatcher. Who catches flies? People who are eating outside for some reason and don't want flies in their faces the whole time.

lol This is because at one point Roofs were made of straw or some shit like that so if it was raining and the pets were sleeping on the roof, sometimes the cats and dogs would come through the roof. This is 19th century shit
