He made some good points about personal responsibility, but we have to live with the fact that white society expects us to fit in with how they feel we should think, act and feel...if not we are niggers. We arent supposed to have any kind of identity, just follow their blueprints on how to live life. Theres a reason lemon didnt mention the prison industry, biased treatment of blacks in the court system, and the war on drugs which are the roots of most issues black folks have. He didnt have to live that life so he cant relate. We didnt bring drugs into this country, introduce drugs into communities then make the laws give stiffer penalties to ourselves, which has broken up families for generations now. So he cant be taken serious only telling half of the story
I agree with your point about us not bringing drugs into our communities, but we destroy our communities by selling them in our neighborhoods. And while there is a disproportionate rate at which we are incarcerated for drug crimes and the penalties we receive compared to our White counterparts, I think you're missing a point. Selling drugs is still a crime, period! We choose to believe that our only form of income has to come from either athletics, rap, or drugs.
On your next point, Blacks should NEVER lose their identity but the problem with our current identity is that it was fed to us through the media. The whole baggy, sagging pants shit and tennis shoes with every outfit is a relatively new phenomenon. Also, we don't have a plethora of black businesses and corporations that would help set a Black identity. Collective wealth is power and influence. And those that we do have, we don't frequent enough to make a difference. So you're left playing a game at which you have to gain employment in Predominately white corporations and have to be presentable.
