That poll was and is irrelevant since it compared Ether to Supa Ugly and not Takeover. That was straight bullshit.

It wasn't irrelevant to Jay. Hell you had him & Angie up there saying I can't believe it. That contest was essentially Takeover & Supa Ugly vs Ether.

Whatever you think about that poll it pretty much captured the streets feelings. Nas won with that being whatever it means. The NorthEast crowned Nas plain & simple.

The Takeover- Ether debate was my first revelation that niggas are sheep. When Takeover came out it was niggas my age older and in between all singing Jays praises. Sayin how they dont think anyone could come back from that etc etc. Blueprint drops. Niggas fall in love with U Dont Know & Renegade. Saying how they both killed it. They aint know Em could do that. Jay was flowin too. All verbatim statements. 3 months go by and Jay is the unofficial winner. Niggas forgot about the damn beef. Ether drops. Niggas like it. But its "not better than what Jay was saying." verbatim. Superugly drops. The vote comes in on the bullshit Hot 97 poll and no lie within the next 3 days im hearing

"nas fucked jay up with that"

"jay lookin weak right now yo i aint think nas could come back. nas destroyed him"

"yo thats true!! em did smash him on that jawn"

from the SAME niggas. It was even nas fans and randomn niggas come out the woodworks repeating the same shit. I never took Popular Opinion seriously after that. I've been in rooms by myself arguing till im blue in the face with Wayne fanatics Dipset stans G-Unit junkies and just randomn casual fans and niggas who are caught up in the now and theyall spit the same cliche argument just repeating what they heard. shit is disgusing. Breaking down every aspect of the battle to niggas. Then usually 3 weeks couple months later after they llisten and/or stop being sheep niggas come around and be on that "u know u was kinda right about Takeover"

Nas fans know whats up. But they'll hold on to that hollow "victory" forever.

Sorry but I disagree completely. Everybody thought Nas was done after Takeover. Nas took the old school response of wainting until his album dropped to respond. I personally had no clue he had Ether in him. Now when it hit the radio down here in Philly. From Radio host to callers it was "Ether" was better but Takeover was only one verse. I was glued to the radio for about 9 hours straight.

Ether was proclaimed the better record hands down in the North East. I think outside of the NorthEast more people think Takeover was better but as always. When your hometown or region say you lost then perception equals reality.

i was a fan of Takeover....... shit was crucial and hit some key points......niggas was jammin the Blueprint, Jay-Z was at a all time high, the nigga Nicky Barnes....

i swear at this time we used to watch belly all the time, Nas was that nigga no lie, but after Jay hit em with Take over......it was pretty much dead -locked....

niggas was having a field day shittin Nas...... i mean literally just shittin all over Nas, it was a hard time to be Nas and Jay fan....im a nigga from the South so we got lvoe for both

but after Takeover.....u had to choose a side.......i would say 95% of people went with Jay and said yea Jay destroyed that nigga......

NOW ETHER DROPS.............. i swear the day i heard ETHER...... im pretty sure this got around the hip hop world faster then anything i can name at this time.....

But nigga played ETHER on the Radio down here.......dog it was pretty over for Jay....to be honest i dont think i even heard the word ETHER on a Rap song until then.....

Niggas asked me what is ETHER......all i could say is dog i really dont know, but i know that shit makes your soul burn slow.......Nas did a number on Jay-Z.....

Jay-Z will never be the same...... I tell niggas this all the time, how u truly judge the Battle is by the people who Battled.......Yea Jay was riding high when Takeover dropped

he even shitted on Nas and stood behind his words.....but once ETHER dropped......dog Jay-Z whole shit was different......nigga cried on the radio.....Nas made this nigga cry

when i heard that shit, and Jay-Z actin like a bitch talkin about Nas went to far......it was really over for Jay-Z.....when everybody in your camp.....say Jay-Z was totally stunned

and shocked by ETHER......we all knew Jay had lost this battle, and turned into sore loser........when Takeover was out Jay was cool, but when ETHER hit him in chest, and then down to his soul.........to this day Jay-Z soul is burning.......

And with that, /close thread.

Coming up ladies and gentleman, your news and sports, right here at 11!

DID THIS GUY JUST POST WAYNE AS HIS ALL TIME GREATEST?

This is a problem with hip-hop, mainstream, and why people are asking if it's dead IS "YOU" SIQNIQ DA RAPPER!!!! Rock music, R&B, Jazz, Punk, etc. all have history. ALL of the music you love and buy( yes even you "Siqniq da rapper") has history to it. You listen to a couple of albums and some mix tapes and now you think you can make your decision off that????? C'mon!!!! Everything, even the Olympic Games they picks of athletes from all over the world after 4 years of training. I can tell by your list you don't have a very extensive music collection. EVERY ARTIST you love and that is on that list probably owns a hip-hop album made before they were born. I don't think YOU do. Maybe you should take a lesson from some of the people on your list and broaden your listening horizon. Love who you want to love, but you still playing checkers in this rap shit when you need to be learning how to play chess...

Lil Wayne will never have next as long as Jay, Em, and Kanye are rapping. They've outsold him and all have better catalogs, Jay-z has numerous times so and so rapper has next (Wayne, Lupe,Ross, etc)

Who said anything about having next????? I've never heard Jay come on a record and say "so and so rapper" has next. What song was this? I have heard him say it on a collaboration with Lil Wayne though. Ya know, a song they are both on (Mr. Carter) !!! I've heard him say it (again) on another record with an artist that he signed to his label that dropped an album this year (A Star is Born). Other than that i have never heard Jay z come on a record and say someone got next. Even beyond saying someone got next he said Wayne was his heir and he would pass the torch to em.

Find me those records and lyrics where he mentioned others....otherwise...STFU!!! Why you so mad at what that man said out his mouth? Just cause you dont like Wayne dont mean shit to Jay Z...

I really dont thik yall listen to lyrics.

Here, let me hold yall hand through this (pause)

Bluepritn 2 Lyrics:

I've been real all my life, they confuse it with conceit

Since I will not lose, they try to help him cheat

-Nas was looked at as the underdog, so Jay Z felt he was labeled as a bully-i.e. having to apologize for Super Ugly

But I will not lose, for even in defeat

There's a valuable lesson learned, so it evens it up for me

-HELLO!!! He ADMITS he lost the battle

When the grass is cut, the snakes will show

I gotta thank the little homie Nas for that though

-The battle showed who were his friends forreal, since he was the ultimate winner but now was viewed as 'losing'

Saving me the hassle of speaking to half of these assholes

And I'ma let karma catch up to Jaz-O, whoa

-Jaz-O provided Nas w/ dirt on Jay that Nas used in Ether.

AND IM A JAY SUPER FAN LOL He's the best rapper to ever hold a mic, but he LOST in 1 song vs song battle...damn

Y'all niggas deal with emotions like bitches
What's sad is I love you 'cause you're my brother
You traded your soul for riches
My child, I've watched you grow up to be famous
And now I smile like a proud dad, watching his only son that made it
You seem to be only concerned with dissing women
Were you abused as a child, scared to smile, they called you ugly?
Well life is hard, hug me, don't reject me
Or make records to disrespect me, blatent or indirectly
In '88 you was getting chased through your building
Calling my crib and I ain't even give you my numbers
All I did was gave you a style for you to run with
Smiling in my face, glad to break bread with the god
Wearing Jaz chains, no tecs, no cash, no cars
No jail bars Jigga, no pies, no case
Just Hawaiian shirts, hanging with little Chase
You a fan, a phony, a fake, a pussy, a Stan
I still whip your ass, you thirty-six in a karate class
You Tae-bo hoe, tryna' work it out, you tryna' get brolic?
Ask me if I'm tryna' kick knowledge
Nah, I'm tryna' kick the shit you need to learn though
That ether, that shit that make your soul burn slow
Is he Dame Diddy, Dame Daddy or Dame Dummy?
Oh, I get it, you Biggie and he's Puffy
Rockefeller died of AIDS, that was the end of his chapter
And that's the guy y'all chose to name your company after?
Put it together, I rock hoes, y'all rock fellas
And now y'all try to take my spot, fellas?
Philly's hot rock fellas, put you in a dry spot, fellas
In a pine box with nine shots from my glock, fellas
Foxy got you hot 'cause you kept your face in her puss
What you think, you getting girls now 'cause of your looks?
Ne-gro please
You no mustache having, with whiskers like a rat
Compared to Beans you wack
And your man stabbed Un and made you take the blame
You ass, went from Jaz to hanging with Caine, to Herb, to Big
And, Eminem murdered you on your own shit
You a dick-riding faggot, you love the attention
Queens niggas run you niggas, ask Russell Simmons
Ha, R-O-C get gunned up and clapped quick
J.J. Evans get gunned up and clapped quick
Your whole damn record label gunned up and clapped quick
Shawn Carter to Jay-Z, damn you on Jaz dick
So little shorty's getting gunned up and clapped quick
How much of Biggie's rhymes is gonna come out your fat lips?
Wanted to be on every last one of my classics
You pop shit, apologize, nigga, just ask Kiss

That wasn't a fact that Jay-Z spit, it was a lie:

HHNLive.com: What was your reaction to the Serchlite line in Jay-Z's "Takeover"?

MC Serch: I never really paid that line much mind. It was a way of Jay getting underneath Nas' skin. The truth of the matter is we don't own Nas' publishing, never have. We administer Nas' publishing, but Nas owns his own publishing. So when Jay said he paid Serchlite Publishing, it's not necessarily true. It's just a way of getting under Nas' skin.

JayZ groupies tend to believe everything that JayZ raps in his songs even if it's something as corny and unfounded as Prodigy being a ballerina and Jayz having photographic evidence of it.

Peoples opinions vary on which diss track was better but I thought "Takeover" was average at best with it's Rock guitar riff and the white man growling in the background....plus JayZ is a Nas groupie which is why he constantly referenced him and his music in his early career and then signed him to Def Jam.

Takeover is invalid, Supaugly was garbage, ETHER was classic.

Word, plus Nas dropped four solo LPs before Takeover that at least went gold, and three of those albums had at least 4 mics in The Source. So that "one hot album every ten average" line is a joke as well. Great drop, Ether>>>Takeover.

After that.......Jay was pretty much done in my book......cuz i was and always will be a Jay fan.....

But i think Jay really shitted on "US" as black folks with the line about Nas tryna kick knowledge, when all Jay did was spew garbage lies

like he showed me everything Nas was sayin was true....like Jay aint tryna see another Black succeed unless he on they back...

and Jay u foul for that u sucker type of blood-sucking ass phony.......

And Nas always kick knowledge he never tried.....he did kick the knowledge

Captivating lyrics on a "whole nother planet"

Dame diddy dame daddy dame dummy Oh i get it you biggie he puffy

Oooooooooooooo

Fuck outta here nigga

Thomas, you do not want to do this.

That was just a line that stood out to me personally at the moment...if u want 'another planet' lyrics they are right there, you've heard the song like everyone else. Dont be stupid.

If we give Jay credit, and righfully so, for '4 albums in 10 years...' you then also must give credit for:

Foxy got you hot 'cause you kept your face in her puss

What you think, you getting girls now 'cause of your looks?

OR

You went from Kane, to Irv, to Big...

OR

Shawn Carter to Jay-Z, damn you on Jaz dick

OR

How much of Biggie's rhymes is gonna come out your fat lips?

OR

Ha, R-O-C get gunned up and clapped quick

J.J. Evans get gunned up and clapped quick

Oh my bad, that last one was just pure comedy...but lemme guess, battling should be just 100% facts and no humor, right?

And the BEAUTY if all this shyt is im the biggest Jay Z fan i kno. Its called objectivity-its a beautiful thing, and its a foreign concept on the IC
