They pretty much invited any negativity towards the song by sampling one of Otis Redding's greatest recordings, naming it Otis and not really justifying why it's called "Otis" other than it samples an Otis Redding song. On top of that, the content of the song doesn't match the sample. It's like it's sampling Otis Redding just to be sampling Otis Redding.

Gotta cosign this

Nigga managed to take the soul out a Otis Redding record

Funny thing is, soul is what Kanye is best at

But the nigga just looped this and called it a day

Shit sounds underproduced

The bars Kanye spit were hot and Jay's werer aight but he sounds bored

And they name it "Otis" and brag about material things throughout the whole song

Swag and snapbacks Jay? Really? SMH

Shenco, how come you ALWAYS defend Jay-Z but I've never seen you caping for any other artist?? It's not hate when we have valid points and reasoning behind our statements. Learn how to argue.

Rap has become too much of a copycat industry. They're like the NFL with that wildcat stuff a couple years ago. In the past 2 years In rap how many songs, freestyle, or hooks were dedicated to some famous person's name?

i really respect the fact that they called the song otis. i thought it was cool that they gave a homage to the person they sampled rather than just using the track and most people not even knowing where it came from. Otis Redding hits on youtube have skyrocketed since the song came out and now you have a whole new generation of kids listening to his music that probably never would have even known who he was other wise. and redding's widow has said publicly that she appreciates the use of his song/name in this way. so if she doesn't have a problem with it, i don't see why anyone else should.

and as far "snapback" line, i thought jay's first verse had a clever double:

Arm out the window through the city I maneuver slow

Cock back, snap back

See my cut through the holes

you can see him cut his whip through the holes in traffic/you can see he's haircut through the holes of his snapback

and i agree jay wild for saying he "invented" swag. but he did use the word "swag" on psa way back in 2003:

"checkout my swag yo, i walk like a ballplayer"

so it's not like he's jumping on the bandwagon. he's been saying it way before it become a cliche.

like i said before niggas thought Kanye and Jay wud be on the level of the Outkasts

they have no chemistry or lack of thats why everything is so underwhelming

Give me a Jay and Beans album any day

and a Kanye and Cam

Its safe to say Kanye producing for Jay> Kanye rappin with Jay

just cuz u get two dope rappers on one song doesnt mean the product will be instantly a classic, we've had many dope rappers collab before and make wack songs

however some dous are meant to be like Big and Jay, Pac and Snoop, Cube and Dre etc....the chemistry is very important

i'm sure Jay and Kanye will have one decent song, they mos def are no rappin dou thats fo sho

I'm interested in seeing how they prepare for songs. Like how they get their inspiration and how much they sit down and plan it out versus just going in and feeling the chemistry in the moment and letting it flow.

Have they spoken about a specific direction for the album or anything like that?
