They pretty much invited any negativity towards the song by sampling one of Otis Redding's greatest recordings, naming it Otis and not really justifying why it's called "Otis" other than it samples an Otis Redding song. On top of that, the content of the song doesn't match the sample. It's like it's sampling Otis Redding just to be sampling Otis Redding.

i really respect the fact that they called the song otis. i thought it was cool that they gave a homage to the person they sampled rather than just using the track and most people not even knowing where it came from. Otis Redding hits on youtube have skyrocketed since the song came out and now you have a whole new generation of kids listening to his music that probably never would have even known who he was other wise. and redding's widow has said publicly that she appreciates the use of his song/name in this way. so if she doesn't have a problem with it, i don't see why anyone else should.

and as far "snapback" line, i thought jay's first verse had a clever double:

you can see him cut his whip through the holes in traffic/you can see he's haircut through the holes of his snapback

and i agree jay wild for saying he "invented" swag. but he did use the word "swag" on psa way back in 2003:
