I actually agree with this. That said, I don't particularly respect artists who just ride whatever trend is popular either. When it comes down to it, there is a fine line to being a great artist.

I'm not quite sure why anyone would disagree with Carlos. What he said, isn't a shot a Beyonce if you are an objective listener. Can Beyonce sing? Yes. Can Rihanna sing? Yes. But they aren't singers in the context that Carlos was attempting to convey. Modern day singers are artists like Jill Scott, Ledisi, Bilal, and Keke Wyatt.

And it's not really about her voice anyway. It's about the way she sings.

We all have our opinions and we can agree to disagree. I tend to like soul music more than pop R&B, so I listen to more of that. To some extent it's splitting hairs since so many artists crossed over back and forth, but to me Beyonce is pretty solidly in that pop R&B category. If we're talking about someone with mainstream success, I'd say someone like Alicia Keys is a way better example of a Soul singer than Beyonce.

Like someone has already said, range is not as important for a pure Soul singer. You're right we're splitting hairs, but one thing is true, you guys need to stop acting like range is the end all and be all of singing for all genres. Beyonce ain't on no Mt. Rushmore. She's a great entertainer with a decent voice, who's produced mostly pop music for teenage girls. Outside of Dangerously in Love....how many songs will even be remembered in 20 years? Just the last 25 years Whitney, Mariah, Alicia K., Aaliyah, hell even Agulierra have better career discographies. I'll take RiRi's top 5 songs over Bey's at this point.

I recently took wifey to the concert in Zurich. it was outdoors and cold and rainy...an bey once still danced around in her drawls and splashing in water an all. you can tell she was a bit under the weather cuz she wasn't as crisp as the other concerts...but still was better than alot of shit I have seen.

In 2016 she had sold over 100 million MORE records than beyonce.

I took an ex of mine to the Destiny's Child concert on their last tour...she puts a crazy amount of effort on stage. Anyone who fronts on her live ability is just dumb.
