It doesn't matter how much you push an artist, they have to have a song that connects with an audience that is going to request the songs, download the single from iTunes and cop the albums. "Shoulder Lean" was THAT song. Dro has had some singles since then and has had some push for this album like "Take Off", "I Don't Know Ya'll" and currently the "Freeze" remix. It would be better to release Dro w/ the proper set up than to just release the album for the sake of releasing it and people still fault Tip for allowing him to flop. I won't even get into Eightball & MJG b/c that was distributed through an indy label despite it being a Grand Hustle release. All in all, rapper CEO's will always be at fault when an artist sits on the shelf and when an album flops b/c the setup wasn't right. When an artist succeeds under a rapper, it goes unspoken. Nobody ever mentions how DTP launched Chingy, how Master P released albums that did considerably well from almost an entire roster of artists, how Jay was instrumental in Ne-Yo and Rihanna's careers etc. People bring up the flops and how dirty of a deal the artists got.

How many artist's maintain a successful solo career and run a successful label?

I can't think of any. I wouldn't count Shady/G-Unit Records because it wasn't Eminem & 50 Cent that really did the label work, it was Interscope/Aftermath

Man Dro is nowhere near as complete as TI...some niggas hear some nice punchlines and think a nigga is that dude...Dro been out forever and is still in his same spot cuz his demographic is limited...He tried to hop on the Yung LA/Travis Porter/ J.Money sound and it didnt catch on...You think TI and J. Geter want to put out something only bootleggin niggas are goin to bootleg?!? Aint nobody buying records no more so Dro should stick to his lil underground niche and tour off that...

TI>>>>>>Rocky Road Dro, Grand Hustle Dro, and Polo Horse Dro

x404

I phux wit Dro, but there was nothin' but truth posted above. Although I think a few of the songs he made that was on that Black Boy/White Boy/Futuristic shyt was ridin' (i.e. "I Don't Know Ya'll", "Party"), he needs to focus on doing him and what got him to this point. He came back to his roots w/ "Freeze Me" and it's a good song, but it's not THAT song. It ain't the easiest thing to do in the world, but I think he has the ability to make that song that connects w/ everybody. This is in part to why Dro ain't on T.I.'s level b/c he's not as complete as an artist, especially when it comes to makin' that undeniable hit (eventho he's searchin' 4 one himself right now, lol).

so wtf was Dro doin while Tip was locked up?.......sittin waitin on him to come home and make him a priority while B.O.B was out and about getting his on grind puttin his name out there and actually releasing quality material....Tip's job was to open the door not hand Dro the keys to the safe....if he cant figure out how to crack the code then he prolly isnt as great as everyone is making him out to be.....it's alot more to it than just spittin on a record....

t.i. Said it best. Hes in the business of supply and demand. You gotta make a demand for it, before he can supply it. The rest of the country doesn't remember about young dro. Shit, bob was on grand hustle for years until "nothin on you" caught on. I salute tip for not force feeding us his artists. Them niggas gotta make their fanbase organically. We don't need another 'young money'..

but tip kinda alluded to the reasoning in his king of da south debate interview...

http://hiphopnews.me/2010/08/21/t-i-interview-with-the-source/

he said artists have to make dem selves a priority, and b.o.b. Did that...

He said b.o.b. Was not next in line to come out till he made him self dat...

Dat may be what dro needs to do again, cuz he nice wit da music, but dont know yall and freeze me just aint gon cut it....

T.i. Still bullshittin wit dro doe...

bob aint 100% grandhustle...

Whatta bout ball n g and that 1 single they dropped?... Niggas and lookin for them no mo?

U aint finna tell me that dro cant be hotter than waka flakka or gucci mane...

Atlanta got more than enuff space for dro to blow...
