Sampling is an art. It is amazing where Kanye gets the music he uses for his samples. not only does he make a fire ass song with it but he makes you appreciate the original. So props to those who don't sample but it doesn't make you any better of a producer cuz u dont.

Without original music, there would be no ill samples. Both serve their purpose, but original music is more potent than a sample because it provides the origin or point of reference for future generations to build.

"Heartless" contains a sample and the last song on the album is definitely sampled.

Also, The Neptunes also sample (ODB's "I Got Your Money" samples the drums from Michael Jackson's "Billy Jean"). The Roots sample too. Their song, "Star" is basically a re-played version of Sly and The Family Stone's "Everybody Is A Star".

Some of what he does isn't sampling though. It's taking everyday objects and making instruments out of it. For example, the little crickets in his early beats weren't samples. They were just one of the sounds from his keyboard. It's no different from wind instruments like trumpets and flutes manipulating the wind that the player is blowing into the instrument. Sampling is taking pre-recorded sections of a song and adding to it.
