niggas spend 200 dollars on jordans but wont spend 10 dollars on a cd

Yall hip hop lovin nggas gon need a new argument. B/c clearly it aint workin. Them same fans will go spend $40 on some concert tickets, tho. So yall need to rethink the concept of "value". Let me explain it for you.

When something is of "value", a consumer actually WILL be willing to pay for it.

When something's "value" has lessened, and its cheap, there is no "value", hence even $10 is not worth it. And there's no brand loyalty to a cheap product. Do you ONLY buy, say, your socks from 1 brand? No. Its cheap, easily reproduced, so you get em from wherever, whenever the need arises.

So why is the album cheapened? 1) obviously rap and rappers as a whole are cheapened. 2) Years and years worth of albums where its known by everyone in the game that the mixtape will be dope but the album wil be different on some 'try to get new fans' and its almost always worse. (On a s/n, thats another concept in Marketing- the cost of getting new customers is more expensie and often times more detrimental than just pleasing your existing base...but thats another convo.)

But back to value. Thats not just me, thats Economics---not even 101, more like 301.

Bingo. You get "it". Hip hop is cheapened by the free music the rappers release. Plus the wack artists that are passed off as serious artists (Soulja Boy). Why pay for an album when you've released 5 free albums within the last year. Why buy an album by a rapper that doesn't even care about what they say or how it comes off. Hip hop sales are low because hip hop as a whole is cheapened.

But who really cares if hip hip album sales are low anymore??? I dont hear too many artist complaining about that anymore to be honest...

Most artist who are getting money have adjusted and are getting money through different avenues.....the shit is causing artist to push major labels out the way because they really dont need them..

That's a total different argument. We're talking about why people don't buy albums.

Oh i thought we established that already.....cuz they dont have to.

Eminem fans "don't have to" either yet that cracka stays selling.

Kanye West, Jay Z, Kendrick Lamar, Nas, Drake, Wayne, Nicki etc seems to sell records.

Even in other genres pop acts are selling.

Get out of this myopic view and think about the bigger picture.

Bruh those are superstars there are many reasons to why they are selling but who cares???? Artist who have figured out ways to get their music out and still get money aren't complaining....so why are u?????

I'm not complaining. Just stating the facts. Hip hop has little value these days. Way too many bad artists and way too many mixtapes have devalued the genre. Meanwhile pop and rock acts can sell. And certain rappers can sell. It's more to it than "I can get it for free why pay for it". But you keeping missing the point.

Sells dropped in all genres tho....i get your point but i dont think mixtapes devalued the genre....ive been downloading music since 2001-2002...i stopped buying albums because i didnt have to anymore..u just pointed out hip hop artist who are still selling and the reason is because whites are buying the albums along with blacks....whites are the majority in this country...they consume the most music....its more whites that are into other genres of music thats why those other forms of music are selling more...its hard for a hip hop artist to make it to superstar status without the support of whites because they will only make it so far because we are not the majority....this shit aint rocket science.

Mixtapes have devalued the game. What's the one common denominator among the artists I listed? They rarely if ever put out mixtapes. Wayne used to put out a ton of mixtapes before he really blew then after he's drop maybe one every once in awhile. Jay, Kanye, Nas, Kendrick, Eminem aren't dropping mixtapes. If you're always giving away free music you're devaluing your music.

Who really wants to pay for something they can get for free, especially when money ain't what it used to be?

I'm an artist who suffers from ppl not buying music, but I get it

If my fav artist drops music and I can hear it,I'm gonna listen

If we had that option in 95 we would have taken it,but music was more exclusive

you can't go back and change the past

50 leaked his own album for free and still did 40K

That's really the new model

You gotta give it away and sale it

That's a whole other topic we talkin about music...and he is right folks need to stop feeding this current business model of the music industry because artist ain't seeing that bread anyway....they gettin money through other avenues like I've been saying so who cares if no one is buyin albums.....those same artist that are droppin mixtapes are still eating doin shows and merchandising selling their brand instead just focusing on a album.....

Last time I heard nipsey was doin good getting 15k a show selling his album and giving it away for free make over 100k no middle man involved.....fuck these records labels I ain't supporting that shit..

Everything you're saying is facts. I'm not arguing against that at all. The artists have adapted to the low sales. But the fact still remains that hip hop is cheapened by the excessive mixtapes and the over saturation of wack rappers. That played a part in the slumping sales of hip hop music.
