At the same time tho Jim Brown was vocal about racial issues and inequality on and off the field. Football players nowadays are interesting man but some of them aren't too bright. I feel like we expect too much from the wrong types of celebrities and get let down when we shouldn't be surprised by some of them. Look at say ASAP Rocky last month. I prefer to listen to a high powered lawyer or the president speak on the plights of black America not fuckin ASAP Rocky or Cam Newton.

Voila. Its not because a nogga is good in sport and recognized worlwide that he SHOULD BE YOUR GOD/HERO/CIVIL RIGHTS LEADER/PROPHET.

First of all these athletes should get some communicatkons advices before any type of interviews.

You are a football player then talk about the NFL. Dont bother go outside your world, your dimension. Most of the time the results are bad.

That shit must stop imo. Does Goerge Clooney,Ryan Gosling,Daniel Creg,Tom Cruise, get that type of questions on GQ? I guess not.

These journalists arent slick. Eerbody in the world knows that racism is not gone in America. Why asking about what is OBVIOUS,tweeted and videotaped?

People need to realize most of these black entertainers are to be ignored on issues like this. They make their money based on public approval to some extent. That's a conflict of interest when it comes to addressing issues that much of the public is in disagreement over.

this has a point.

u think when your making money... certain things get overlooked an it seems different that what it is. this is where so.e people tend to think they are special an others are doing it wrong....when it's not that way...just more about money speaking first

They should ask every white celebrity about either lgbt issues or rape. Let's see what they think about that lol.

Cam is smarter than this, he doesn't want to say anything that will cause distractions going into the season.

I hope that's his rationale.

Yea.....im sure all the blk players on his team agrees with his latest stance.

You sound stupid. If Cam didn't want a distraction, he'd say no comment....

He probably doesn't feel like having to keep explaining himself, if he decided to talk about racism. He'll keep giving cop out answers when asked about racism.

I don't like how he gives bullshit answers about racism, but I can see why he won't go in on racist fans and reporters.

Kys.

Read the entire interview not the snippets.

I think what he's trying to say is he doesn't want his career to be centralised around that and only be known as "the black guy". He acknowledges racism and is saying there's bigger issues within the league than need to be addressed but is leaving it to you to figure out and come to your own conclusions (I guess calling attention to something without directly saying it or in other words playing it safe ?). He's an athlete and saying while he retains his black pride and is for his people, he's not trying to use the race card for certain situations or be the spokesperson for racism in the NFL and wants to be appreciated beyond that.

That's what I got from the interview. I think the person who made this article (not the GQ one) is misinterpreting what is being said in the GQ article on purpose, to get under the readers skins and start the conversation that Cam is a "sellout" and "coon". End goal to get the link circulated and hopefully a response from Cam or GQ. Classic dirty divisive journalism.

Kinda ironic reading that and then seeing this.

Dude stop it, with your interpretation. Miss me with the "heres what I think he said" stuff...

We going with what exactly was said.

By Cherry picking arguments?

I read the whole article/interview and still have to say I am disappointed in Cam. Actually I don't even believe that is how he really feels the disappointment comes from the fact that he could've given way better bullshit answers than that.

Cam is pulling a Richard Sherman by trying to win White America over by eliminating the stereotypes attached to his persona. It's one thing if that's how he's always felt, but you don't go from being the out spoken black qb last season then all of a sudden having a change of tune.

It's whatever though, same shit showing how mentally weak a lot of niggas are.

And why comment on it ?

Is it because the average blk person is inherently ignorant, and naive, or just a natural bucking slave by nature?

Tom Brady had a Trump hat last year. He was asked about it, and he said no comment, and kept it pushing.

Cam could of said no comment.

Asap Rocky could of said no comment.

Most blk ppl dont want blk entertaininers to lead a march on Washington. What most blk ppl arent thrill about is, these slave ass responses from blk Entertaininers.

Ex: "It's Not Racism, We're Beyond That As A Nation."

Really?

Cam's ppl getting killed by said nation, Cam sees the unapologetic response from said nation, yet Cam had the gall to fix his face and say that????

Really?

That's what we're not thrilled about. U better off just saying no comment.

It's like these niggas are afraid to speak, and when these emasculated bucks do speak, it's some coon shit.... and the reason they do that is , they're obviously trying to appease to whites.

Should star athletes even be qualified to speak on racial issues? Because let's be real, them niggas get treated differently than the average black person and once they start believing they are different you get niggas saying shit like this. But he'll get a nigger wake up call sooner or later or he might just brush that off like he's doing now even when crackers were calling him all types of niggers during the superbowl

Look at the show Ballers. They are treated nice by white folks, have white "friends", cave Kate Hudson bitches who are DTF all the time, and white sports agents who seem nice to them. So they are kinda out of touch. However there some black athletes who know what is up and keep it real.

yall got these folks up on these high ass pedestals. ...its like yall jus refuse to acknowledge the fact that these guys are jus niggas with jobs, albiet, better paying. stop acting like yall dont know how being black n employed goes

he works for the white man on his on time and prolly talk about him on his off time like a lot of the rest of us....he ain't nothing but a reflection of us

Because for some reason the idea that because you're good at sports or music means you can also offer social commentary is and has been prevalent for far too long

Vince Young said something similar once.

I find it interesting that all Jews, who run this country will always tell you how bad it is to be a Jew in this country (false) as does gay people but some black celebrities/athletes speak like this on black issues. Think about that.

Y'all don't see what's going on?

All the white owners (NBA & NFL) got together and had a meeting about how all these "hot button" sociopolitical issues regarding their black players could affect their bottom lines.

After University of Missouri football team threatened to strike (based upon racist practices by the university) which ultimately led to the dismissal of the President.

These actions put Big universities, and pro team owners on notice. I'd be willing to bet that Cam is following a script that's been given to him by the team owner.

Just like when LeBron didn't say anything publicly about the Tamir Rice killing (talking bout he didn't know enough about it to have an opinion......Yeah right!!)

These crackas is nipping that BLM stuff in the bud. They want players to make them MONEY, not be BLM "activists."

Remember, the strong rule the weak, but the smart rule the strong.

Exactly. People making excuses about athletes not being social activists. None of these rich gays are activists and can do whatever they want but they all boycotted NC ironically over the ability to use the bathroom that trannies shouldn't be using because they are confused. Most white supremacists weren't out hanging and burning niggas but they supported it with their position.

As a Panther fan I may have to denounce this dude. He's been dressing like someone's sassy aunt now he's tapdancing on the edge of being a coon.

You ready for Derek Anderson to start some games this year? Lol

These niggas are bitches scared to stand on their word. The fear of losing money seems to be more important than character and than the plight of they people. Niggas get rich and pretend that the poor nigga experiences they went thru in the hood before making it out never happened.
