On being under more scrutiny and criticism because he's a black quarterback:

"It's not racism," Newton told GQ. "Everybody's entitled to their own opinion."

"I don't want this to be about race, because it's not. It's not," Newton said. "Like, we're beyond that. As a nation."

On hot button issues such as Trump, McRory, HB2, etc.:

"I love people too much to care about those type of things."

"I'll let you be the judge. I don't look at it like that," he told GQ. "I look at it like some people have certain beliefs, and I have my own belief, and we can agree to disagree on certain things. But this is what makes sports so amazing, that we can start a discussion around a table, in the newspaper, in the magazines, that will get people's attention. And that's what sports does."

His only direct remark about race was in relation to his football critics.

As far as hot button issues, he said he lets people form their own opinions about what's going on.

So what's the problem? Y'all got to stop expecting these black athletes and entertainers to be activists. Nobody expects Brady, Manning, Rodgers, etc. to speak on any serious issue, which is exactly Cam's point. He wants to be a great quarterback, not just a black quarterback. The only reason he's asked these questions is because he's black, which I don't think is fair.

He does say though that he has his own beliefs and opinions, so it's not like he's oblivious to what's going on.

It's just kind of jarring and somewhat disappointing because Cam hasn't really shied away from talking about race in the past

Before the Super Bowl last yr he suggested his race scares somes ppl, fans leading to what I believe where some constructive discussions of race in sports

But now, according to him, race doesn't play a factor when people critique him. We're beyond that. Opinions change, but that's a big turn around. He just comes off as naive at best, disingenuous at worst

I can understand him not wanting to use his race as a crutch, but he could have easily had said "for some critics and fans the way I play the game bothers them in great part because of the color my skin unfortunately"

More than likely he is trying not to rock the boat and appease everyone, specially the majority of white fans and reporters

Alot of times, it has nothing to do with fans and reporters. More so to do with the higher ups, and their circle...

Cam is not even permitted to grow his hair.

True

Sure he's been advised to avoid speaking openly about certain issues

Stop dick riding, and hold your own sack boy.

Thought you'd learn by now, about looking up to other men.

but in this case...what he says doesn't even make fucking sense...if you're gonna be a coon be a smart coon.

"we're beyond racism"?????

tell that to the homie that got hung...tell that to the African Americans being threatened by a KKK that feels they can come back and experience success (they won't...they'll get their ass whooped)...tell that to the innocent people getting shot by police because "they look dangerous, he was black and was wearing a hoodie...I was scared"...tell that to all the wrongly imprisoned men...just now getting out of jail because they were accused of something they didn't do...and convicted without proper evidence...

racism still exists...at the very least Cam could have chosen a smarter "politically correct statement"

Did you read it? He said when it comes to football, we're beyond racism. There's racist football fans of course, but to say everybody that criticizes Cam is doing it because he's black isn't true. Do black criticizers of Brady do it because he's white?

Nice try. But that's not what this coon was trying 2 say. He said "It's not about race" and "the country has moved past race". He basically said racism don't exist which is the dumbest shit to say given Donald Trump built his campaign on saying racist shit. If you think racism don't exist how about we attend a Trump rally, then say that dumb shit

He was already the GOAT

Statistically he outplayed both QBs that went to the SB in both the regular and post season

I really hope birdbrain doesn't fuck up his field production

Please post the part where he says the country has moved past race? That's why people can't have good debate nowadays. People read the outrage and base their decisions on third hand accounts.

Which is ironic given this is the exact reason Cam gave for not speaking on hot button issues. People should read into things and form their own opinions. Cam doesn't want people grossly misrepresenting his beliefs then using that misinterpretation to speak foolishly on issues.

You can't believe that with all chances Sam Bradford has been given...that nigga fuckin sucks and stil gets chances to be a starting qb

You think they keeping him because he white? This shit is a business. If they could somehow find a way to get Cam or Jameis, they'd give him the Tebow treatment.

Speaking of which, Tebow is the poster child for wholesome white America and he ain't in the NFL.

Lol and ya'll wanted that nigga to win for Black Excellence™ points soooooo bad.

Well my dickhead Panthers fan stepbrothers were enough reason for me to be happy about him choking....this is just icing on the cake.
