This is nothing new. Bloods and Crips BEEN in Atlanta, just in very small numbers and it was usually older cats who weren't as outwardly violent for no reason, like the young niggas. Like someone else said, Atlanta has always been primarily about what side of town or area you were from. And even within your own side of town, your little area or neighborhood would be banging against the next neighborhood. For the most part, that shit never really got out of control.
