People still letting her live off one album she did 20 years ago. An album where she lied and took credit saying she produced the whole album by the way. Then mf's wonder why she hasn't been able to follow up MELH.

I don't think I've ever been to a been to a concert or club where the artist didn't show up late.

It's a timeless tradition of celebrity to show up "fashionably late".

Why fans have tolerated this behavior for decades is beyond me. What if we didn't pre-order your album and waited months/years later to buy it? What if we showed up to your concert even later than you did? What if you came out on stage to an empty auditorium, only for people to start filing in hours later? Feelings would be hurt and money would be lost.

And if it's true that she came 2 hours late and only performed for 30 minutes, that's extremely fucked up. Lauryn Hill the GOAT but like the guy said, time ain't art. Art is art and late is late.

Nah, a lot of artists be super prompt. Jay Z had a countdown here, and it was on some 29 minutes to tipoff shit. Soon as the clock stopped....Run this town started.

Jeezy comes to my city like 100 times a year. A lot of these dudes be late, but Jeezy comes he don't be at the club when it's about to close and that nigga goes forever, and be fuckin wit the crowd afterward low key. Scarface does the same thing when he used to come a lot.

She had a show with nas in chicago at least 2-3 yrs ago n did the same exact thing.

She was so high at the end of diff songs she would repeat the chorus over and over for literally 10 min straight, the back up singers kept lookin at each other confused everytime they thought she was gonna finally end the song but didnt

God bless her

Thats why fests like lollapolooza are goat cuz they cant pull no shit like that BUT they dont go thru their catalogue as thoroughly bc of it

Her explanation for the shit wasn't no better. Talking about the time don't align right w/ her energy...

I don't show up late to shows because I don't care. And I have nothing but Love and respect for my fans. The challenge is aligning my energy with the time, taking something that isn't easily classified or contained, and trying to make it available for others. I don't have an on/off switch. I am at my best when I am open, rested, sensitive and liberated to express myself as truthfully as possible. For every performance that I've arrived to late, there have been countless others where I've performed in excess of two hours, beyond what I am contracted to do, pouring everything out on the stage.

Because I care so deeply about the artistic process, I scrutinize, have perfectionist tendencies, and want space made for spontaneity, which is not an easy process, with the many moving parts on the road. Some days we are more successful than others re time. However, the vitality that is infused into the performances is always appreciated by the audiences, who may not know exactly what it took to accomplish. What hasn't been touched upon by the media, I'm sure, are the hundreds of people who rushed the stage and stayed in excess of an hour after the show ended last night, just to connect.

Our challenge is to figure out the best way to accommodate the vitality, spontaneity, and spirit that make the performances worthwhile and special to begin with, while also making that experience available and accessible to others. If I didn't Love and respect the art, I wouldn't be doing this. The audience and I should have that in common.

My true audience knows emphatically that I care. It isn't possible to affect people in any deep and meaningful way without putting sacrificial time in.

I have nothing but Love and appreciation for the fans in Atlanta, and regret not being able to give you a full show. We are figuring out a plan to make it up to you, and will announce details as soon as we have them.

Respectfully,

MLH

Wasnt there a nigga on here talking about black people have a different sense of time than others because of blutz waves from the moon or some such nonsense?

I will say this... As a Black community we feed off of drama and gossip. We make statements and believe things based off of media headlines without doing the proper research to make judgements. And as Black women... yes Black women we are the main perpetrators of this drama.

The truth is... while Lauryn was late she was 30 minutes late, her set time was 9:30 she showed up at 10:00. The promoters were supposed to hire performances before Lauryn which didn't happen. So Black twitter doing what they usually do rushed to judgement and made statements without realizing the truth. Where as her mic got cut off during the performance due to a sound ordinance.

But as usual some Black women on twitter being emotional made a tweet talking about lauryn was 3 hours late, which the media recycled; along with black twitter without knowing the truth.

Venue closed at 11pm

She got on stage at 10:30

Put the cape away
