You know that feeling of satisfaction you experience after eating a full course meal? Well that’s how avid music fans of the hip-hop genre have been feeling as of late. After being spoiled with albums from the likes of Jay Z, Kanye West, J. Cole, Wale and more, fans have been avoiding their dessert plate for some time now. Though we have had adequate time to digest the albums from these greats, their albums have still lingered on but it seems as if their time may have past. With the last quarter of the year seeing releases from Big Sean, 2 Chainz, Drake and more, Hip Hop could easily be staring in the face of one of its greatest years EVER. Next in line happened to be the Detroit player, Big Sean.
Now though some may say that hip-hop hasn’t appreciated Sean Don to the fullest–which holds true to a certain extent–it was clear that Big Sean was ready to make his mark again. Immediately after receiving a warm welcome from Shaun Pecas and everyone else who packed the venue, Sean took to the mic to express his feelings. Obviously feeling somewhat unappreciated, Sean rattled off lyrical accolades to remind the people why he believes that he’s an elite MC. Mentioning feature verses such as “All Me“, “Clique“, “Mercy” and more, Big Sean had us questioning why we’ve been questioning his talent and rapping expertise. In addition to this, he validated his notion of being able to “out-rap anyone on a track”. He also embedded in our brain his never-ending desire to be legendary. After pouring out his heart, Big Sean was now ready to give us the privilege of hearing the album in its entirety.
"Nothing Is Stopping You” tipped off the album in proper form which happened to be the chosen track for the album announcement video. Easily one of the standouts of the album, Sean captivated the crowd with powerful lyrics and incredible production right away. Setting the tone early on, there was no looking back from Detroit‘s very own as he transitioned to the Miley Cyrus twerk-worthy sounds of “Fire“. Two tracks in, I started pondering just how incredible the album was sounding thus far and why Big Sean chose to title it ‘Hall Of Fame‘. Like a heavyweight champion in his prime, Big Sean delivered haymaker after haymaker with songs such as “10 2 10“, “Toyota Music“, “You Don’t Know” and “Beware“, making it obvious that he’s been “working like a Mexican“. By in no way was that a racial slur but instead a reference from a track off the album.
The second half of the album is where it began to get tricky. One of the more anticipated tracks off the album, “First Chain“, featured a heavy feature from Nas and when I thought that Kid Cudi would be assigned his traditional hook assignment, he actually laced Big Sean with an undoubtedly potent rap verse. After this,Big Sean acquainted us with his ratchet side on “Milf” which called on the services of the turn-up connoisseur himself, Juicy J, and everyone’s favorite Barbie–not named Barbie–Nicki Minaj. This same duo made a similar appearance of Wale’s “Clappers“. From there it was smooth sailing for the rapper who had proved his point. Big Sean aimed to solidify and elevate his position amongst the best rappers in the game right now and eventually of all-time.
I must applaud him for infecting such a bevy of emotions into his music as those feelings instilled more than just sounds into our ears but sensations into our souls. Though this may just be his second album, ‘Hall Of Fame‘ is a giant step in the right direction for the young rapper. This album will surely erase the painful memories of a debut album which surprisingly flopped and be a solid case for his induction into the exclusiveHall Of Fame of Rap. If he doesn’t reach such a plateau with this album, Big Sean will relentlessly fight till he reaches there one day. When it was all said and done, Big Sean reminded why I plastered a intimidating black-and-white poster of him in my room over a year ago. Get ready for ‘Hall Of Fame‘ come August 27th.

I like his music sometimes. Sometimes he's corny, and sometimes, like with fire, the beat has problems.
