Technically, the show shouldn't have been called the Top 10 rappers of the 21st Century anyway even if they had started w/ 2001. This century is far from over, so it defeats the purpose of naming the show that. It was basically a list of the Top 10 rappers of last decade which is what a lot of people referred to it as despite the name of the show.

They did right in not counting Infinite because most didn't know it existed until around MMLP dropped. It wasn't a major label release. Besides, it wasn't like it was BET's list anyway. Tigger and Diamond Cutz were the only BET employees that were involved and I don't even think Tigger had a vote, he was just a moderator.

I also agree w/ Ja Rule not being included as he didn't fit the criteria. He had nice run from late '00 until late '02, but after that he declined. He could've been put in over Jada and Drake, but Nelly and maybe Eve could've been argued too. As a matter of fact, I think them making the rule of the artist's debut dropping in '99 was to secure a spot for a female rapper more so than to include Wayne or Eminem. Eve was the last new female rapper to have a significant impact until the Nicki Minaj phenomenon.

1 more thing:99 was picked as a year 2 start measuring because the real goal was to rank the MC's that "came to prominence in the 21st cent"

we didn't want someone that released their 1st major CD in (for example) November of '99...but picked up steam later...to be out of it.

so we are VERY well aware that 1999 was in the 20th century. if you really want to get technical, 2000 is in the 20th century, too!!
