The Shiny Suit era at least can be credited with giving us talented artists and great songs. More than I can say for the sheer faggotry of the skinny jeans era

shout out to the thread starter...you other niggas that cant see the forest because of the tress type niggas really proved how narrow minded you are in this thread

Outside of Biggie I never liked Bad Boy's music back then. DMX brought shit back to the streets so I wouldn't even group him with that and Jay-Z was just following the shiny suit trend unsuccessfully. TBH it's like asking "which is worse; stepping on a dry turd? or stepping in a puddle of diarrhea?" either way shit is wack.

It's sum nikkas just gettin' outta' jail off a 10 year bid rockin' a shiny fubu/rocawear denim outfit freshly pressed out da' cleaners wit' wheat Timbs thinkin' that shyt still poppin'.

Fools were idiots in the late 90s. I was actually there. It was all "thuggin" and "gangsta". Im happy that era is over and aint comin back. Now that "thuggin" sht is played out. I aint with the new fashion tho.But im cool with the reality that times have changed and being a "thug" aint so cool. Unlike others I still have a good life today. I know many are bitter cause the world left em. The shiny suit thing was annoyin too. Bling and thuggin. smh.

At least the shiny suit era was only one year (1997) out of hip hop's entire existence and even then we still had Wu-Tang, Camp Lo and Busta Rhymes dropping shit to counter it. I think the more annoying aspect of the shiny suit era for me was the blatantly uncreative sampling all over albums like Harlem World, No Way Out and Big Willie Style. Puff even trolled the critics of that approach knowing that shit was lazy ("we take hits from the 80's and make em sound so crazy").

That hardcore thug shit that came back with DMX & Pun in '98 lasted longer than it should've before the whole button ups with jeans trend usurped it. So it was bound to get tiring after a while because not everybody rapping about that life was about that life and it was beyond obvious. Shiny suit fad died before it could ever get as tiring at least.

Yeah I know but unlike what Diddy and the Hitmen were doing most people actually flip them instead of just loop them/replay them. It was a great hustle though & one that wasn't just restricted to soul or funk tracks either. Taking The Message and The Police's Every Breath You Take 2 of the most popular songs ever at the time and pretty much just adding bullshit lyrics over them was easy money and took balls on his part. Puff a true hustler.
