it should not determin if a rapper is good or not

if a artist makes good songs and music, then it should not be a issue. too many people claim artists like young jeezy, and gucci mane, soulja boy are not very good lyrically, but they have waaaayyy more fans than artist like little brother, or canibus lupe fiasco etc.

most of the time these lyrical rappers dont even be saying anything, they just use big words to say exactly what everyone else is saying. whats the point???

i think your image flow mic presence message, is alot more important than being super lyrical

check pac.

and has there ever been a really lyrical artist to go multiplat/??

discuss

well Jeezy's and Gucci's live mic presence and flow is absolutely horrendous to the point where they are pretty much rapping over a CD with their lyrics so what does that mean to you??

it's just the Hip Hop vs Rap Music argument.

In today's music I would say that it is. You don't have to have great lyrics to make a dope song now days. I really love tight lyrics and all, but I can't listen to all that shit in my car when I am trying to get the hoes to dance and shit. As long as you don't sound like you haven't made it out of kindergarten I am okay.

I don't think being lyrical is overrated, in a technical sense.

I just think people equate being lyrical to complexity, using big words and metaphors and double entendres and multis and similes, etc.

I think that perception of it is overrated.

You don't have to be a walking Webster to be lyrical.

I understand what hes sayin. Being lyrical is not the only way to determine if a rapper is good and I agree. There are plenty rappers wit punchlines for days but when they make a song its trash. You can have the lyrics but if you dont have flow, charisma, good breath control etc... its the same as a nigga that has a good flow but no lyrics.

implying that throwing out punchlines makes you lyrical.......

Being lyrical is overrated to an extent. But not for the sake of being garbage. Plus people have many different ideas on what a lyrical rapper is.

No you assumed. I threw out an example. Theres plenty rappers that can throw out punchlines for 4 straight minutes but when you hear a song from them its trash

I need both songs with great lyricists and then shitty lyricists with fire beats. This is why... The kind with shitty lyrics but fire ass beats get a party started and then you have the kind with great lyrics but bland beats for thinkin'. For example if I am having a party and want to get it crackin' I put on Young Joc- Its goin' down and if I need to think on some shit driving down the road in my car I put in Beanie Sigel- Feel It In The Air. Its Goin Down just has that beat that still gets the booties shakin'. I have both types on CD both types are just for different situations. Like I would never listen to Walk It Out just sittin by myself after work but in the club or at a party that shit gets the ladies dancing everytime.

I know there are exceptions with great lyricists and great beats put together but in my opinion most songs with the great lyricists have shitty beats. That's just me though.

I buy CDs from the great lyricists but if it is just a party song I download and burn. If they don't put effort into their lyrics and music they aren't getting my money.
