Katherine...

Yea. I think I'm gonna have to give Ms. Hepburn the W here, as well.

Aside from Meryl Streep, I don't think there has been another actress that has acted so effectively, yet effortlessly, in front of a camera.

'Whatever Happened to Baby Jane' was my first Bette Davis movie...I loved it
and I been watching her movies ever since. She was truly brilliant!

I think what gives Ms. Hepburn the W here, atleast to me, is that she aged a lot more gracefully than Ms. Davis.

The latter had a relatively short peak period, 1932-'44...with maybe two or three gems, following that period.

Katharine outlasted Bette, in terms of substantial roles. Even when Bette's career started to officially wane as she got older (say circa late 60's, early 70's), Katharine was still doing her thing...and had the Oscar nods (and wins) to prove it.

Hepburn probably one ups Streep, though, because her acting was more fluid. I respect what Streep does on the screen, but her acting tends to be too overly technical at times, when compared alongside Hepburn...the latter of whom appeared to be a natural.

Hepburn had the ability to flow from one scene to the next, as smoothly as water over a rock. Pretty amazing shit.

I haven't seen ALL of their movies, don't know all their film history & all that either.

My POV is just on what I've seen. Katharine was better with age & Bette fell later in her career.

I just feel Bette was overall the better actress. She seemed more versatile.

She could play the most hateful character, just as well as a sweet & sympathetic one, and nail it.

@ Punisher, do you watch a lot of old classics from the 'Golden Era'?

Absolutely. I LOVE the Golden Age...circa 30's to say, the late 50's, is probably my favorite time period of film.

Katharine and Bogie are my favorite female and male actors, respectively. But damn...there's so many, many, many more. Greta Garbo, Laurence Olivier, Audrey Hepburn, James Cagney, Ingrid Bergman, etc, etc. Just fuckin' fantastic.

Hollywood then >>>> Hollywood now. A lot more organic then than it is now.

It's refreshing. After being introduced to Bette Davis & Joan Crawford, I was hooked.

Which film from that time is your favorite/ Recommend?

Everyone was so gorgeous and 'classy' then...

I’ve been watching Hitchcock Films…like ‘Notorious’ with Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman.

I watched a Garbo movie (I think), but it was silent. I can’t remember if that was her.

I would say it's a two way tie between Ninotchka and Bringing Up Baby, as my favorite movie.

If you watch a Garbo film, let it be Ninotchka. One of the greatest comedies ever made and one of the funniest movies you'll ever see, period.

Hitchcock was a great director. Rebecca is probably my favorite film that he produced.
