they shouldve tried to capture the bolland style better.

Way too hard to animate. Especially with the kinda budget they're working with. They explained why pretty well. Had this been a theatrical feature of course it would be possible. However WB has not been bold enough to try that again with DC since Mask of the Phantasm.

The fuck did DC do!??!?! That animation quality is terrible, on par with the 90's x-men series. What happened?!?! They were doing great up until this point, out of all the stories to go low budget on why would it be this one?

It was supposed to pay homage to the original Graphic Novel hence why it looks like that.

Choppy animation included? Sounds like a PR spin. In the several years of DC animated movies have you ever seen a movie look this bad? I understand wanting to emulate the art style, but that shouldn't effect the frame rate. You working for WB ?

It looks like the the same artist who worked on under the hood worked on this and it looks like it was influenced by btas because of the fact that Kevin Conroy a nd mark Hamil are reprising their roles as Batman and joker. Look at the batmobile it's the batmobile from the og animated series. On par with x-men the animated series? Thats a bit of a comparison their. That first season had terrible animation especially the first five or so episodes .

it look like a 10 year old drew it and a 5year old did the layoiuts colors and the background because the coloring was all outside the lines, but we still watched it though. Because the stories were good and so was the action. I read the liking joke some years back and this new feature looks like they are bringing it to life panel to panel plus it's r rated. It looks better than the book imo

The issue is not the drawing art but the way the characters are moving in certain parts of the trailer...its a lil off and weird..

Yup, it looks like they cut costs by animating less frames per second which is giving it that choppy look, telltale sign of a low budget cartoon (eg. Speed Racer), yet we seem to be the only ones that notice it. Difficult to be objective in a room full of DC stans...got the same amount of no signs for claiming that the rumors about Batman V Superman being disappointing were true.

Yea it was obvious in certain parts. The frame rate isn't fluid like it should be.

Batman: The Killing Joke will be released on blu-ray and DVD on August 2, 2016 according to Amazon, one week before a new live-action version of the Joker appears in the DCEU's Suicide Squad movie. The film will likely be made available for purchase on digital and on-demand platforms a few weeks earlier. A SDCC world-premiere has already been confirmed for July. Hopefully, WB Animation can manage to keep this one from leaking online early.

Mark Hamill and Kevin Conroy voice the Joker and Batman, respectively. Tara Strong voices Barbara Gordon. Sam Liu directs, while Bruce Timm serves as executive producer. The film will be the 25th release from the DC Universe: Animated Originals division of WB Animation.

Fathom Events is teaming up with Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, Warner Bros. Animation and DC Entertainment to bring the acclaimed graphic novel-turned-film, Batman: The Killing Joke, to select cinemas nationwide for one night only on Monday, July 25, 2016. The R-rated animated film will screen at 7:30 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. local time at theaters.

The film reunites the foundation of Batman: The Animated Series with Bruce Timm returning as executive producer, and actors Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill reprising their seminal roles as Batman and The Joker, respectively. In addition to the animated feature, audience members will get to experience a special introduction from Mark Hamill plus a never-before-seen documentary about how Hamill was cast in this project and what the role means to him as an actor and a fan. The event will conclude with a special behind-the-scenes look at how the Joker’s memorable, yet disturbing song and dance number was recreated for this feature.

“Fathom Events is thrilled to be able to bring ‘Batman: The Killing Joke’ to movie theaters across the country so fans can see it on the big screen,” Fathom Events Vice President of Studio Relations Tom Lucas said. “Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, Warner Bros. Animation and DC Entertainment have created an amazing production based on a beloved graphic novel, and we’re honored to be a part of this release.”

“Fans have been clamoring for a theatrical release of the popular DC Universe Original Movies, and the highly anticipated ‘Batman: The Killing Joke’ presented a perfect opportunity to work with Fathom Events to bring the fans’ wishes to fruition for this special, limited release,” said Mary Ellen Thomas, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Vice President, Family & Animation Marketing.

Based on the acclaimed DC graphic novel of the same name, Batman: The Killing Joke takes a journey into the dark psyche of the Clown Prince of Crime – from his humble beginnings as a struggling comedian to his fateful encounter with Batman that changes both of their lives forever. Years later, and now escaped from Arkham Asylum, The Joker devises a plan to prove that one bad day can make anyone as insane as he is – setting his sights on Commissioner Gordon. It’s up to the Dark Knight to put a stop to The Joker’s latest scheme and save one of Gotham City’s finest. Following a gripping prologue introducing Barbara Gordon’s heroic adventures alongside Batman as Batgirl, Batman: The Killing Joke stays true to the authentic tale that has held fans’ imaginations for nearly three decades – spotlighting the birth of a Super-Villain, the fortitude of a Super Hero and the punchline that will leave you speechless.

In addition to Conroy and Hamill, the feature also stars the voices of Tara Strong as Barbara Gordon and Ray Wise as Commissioner Gordon. Sam Register and Bruce Timm are executive producers. Benjamin Melniker and Michael Uslan are executive producers. Alan Burnett serves as co-producer.

Batman: The Killing Joke will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on August 2. You can pre-order your own copy by clicking here. The film will be available on Digital HD July 23.
